Yard Operative

to join our dedicated team.

The Role

As a Yard Operative, you will be a vital part of the daily operations within our timber yard and warehouse. This is a physically active, hands-on role where you will work under the direction of the Yard Foreman to ensure the yard remains safe, productive, and customer-focused. You will be responsible for the accurate handling of timber products and assisting our customers with their requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

Provide exceptional service by assisting trade and retail customers with product enquiries, collections, and safely loading their vehicles.

Yard Maintenance:

Ensure the yard and warehouse areas are kept clean, tidy, and organized so they are easy and safe for customers to navigate.

Loading and Unloading:

Assist with the safe and efficient unloading of supplier deliveries and the loading of outgoing customer orders.

Logistics Support:

Work with delivery drivers to prepare and check loads accurately to ensure timely and correct deliveries.

Health and Safety:

Strictly follow all health and safety regulations to maintain a safe environment for yourself, your colleagues, and our visitors.

Stock Handling:

Assist with stock movement and regular stock checks to ensure inventory accuracy.

Equipment Operation:

Safely operate yard equipment, such as forklifts or side loaders, if qualified.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

Previous experience in a warehouse, yard, or builders' merchant environment is preferred. A valid license for a forklift and/or side loader is a significant advantage, though training may be provided. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small team. A proactive, "can-do" attitude and a commitment to high standards of customer service. A good understanding of workplace health and safety practices. Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling duties in a yard environment. Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
