Job Purpose
We are now recruiting for a Yard Operator for our Slicker Operations in Ipswich, to efficiently carry out all operational duties around the facility, with particular focus on the oil collections and packaged waste storage and handling. Ensuring all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner. The successful candidate will work hard whilst promoting the Slicker workplace values. Main tasks and responsibilities will include:
Working with the Site Supervisor to plan and undertake operational tasks on the site including the receipt, testing, tipping, off-loading, storage, treatment and recording of various wastes including oil and packaged wastes.
+ this includes operating site valves, pipelines and pumps
+ carrying out lab analysis on incoming waste
+ directing drivers to unload vehicles Ensure that work is carried out safely and efficiently.
Ensure the operations are compliant with the various site operating procedures, permits and authorisations.
Ensure that wastes are only stored in the correct areas and in accordance with site operational procedures and permitted activities.
Work closely with the Site Supervisor to prepare outputs from the site.
Record and relay site information as required including loads in and out and stock levels.
Complete all paperwork in accordance with company processes and legal requirements.
Work with other colleagues at Ipswich and within the wider Slicker group to aid the smooth operation of the site.
Responsible for the opening and closing of the site, including the tanks.
Skills & key requirements
Experience of working in a similar environment is essential - the role of Yard Operator is physically demanding due to the lifting, carrying and opening and shutting of valves involved, and the necessity to work out in the elements. To be successful in the role you must be resilient and capable of fulfilling these demands.
Good Health & Safety awareness and appreciation
Good communication and maths skills
FLT Licence is essential
Hours of work
48 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (12 hour shifts), 12.86 p/h
7:00am - 19:00pm, with an unpaid lunch. Must be prepared to work occasional Fridays and weekends when required for export shipping work.
