We are looking for a Cafe Trainer to support disadvantaged young people in gaining employment readiness and hospitality skills through hands-on training at Cafe Artysans in Inverness. This role combines practical cafe work with personalised learning and wellbeing support to empower young people towards independence and employment.
The Cafe Trainer is expected to create a welcoming learning environment, design tailored training activities, supports individuals towards personal goals, and collaborates with colleagues to provide on-the-job experience.
Candidates should be confident in cooking, potentially with experience in the hospitality sector, together with an understanding of good customer service. Experience in training or supporting others is essential as is being patience, understanding, and having the ability to create an empowering learning environment for young people with diverse needs.
The successful candidate will be solution-focused, adaptable, a supportive team player, organised, committed to continuous learning, and aligned with Calman Trust's values and ethos.
Terms
21-28 hours/week, 28,000-30,000 Pro rata.
Responsibilities
As the Cafe Trainer you will be expected to:
Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment within Cafe Artysans and work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver employability and hospitality training.
Design learning activity, appropriate to the age and stage of participants, using different training methods to meet the needs of the learners.
Work with individuals to identify their learning needs and personal goals creating a learning plan that reflects their ambitions and the steps needed to achieve their goals
Identify challenges that exist for the young person and work holistically with colleagues to support and empower the young person to manage these difficulties. Support the young person's health and wellbeing throughout
Regularly evaluate and review progress with individuals and help and encourage them to continue towards their goals
Work collaboratively with the catering and hospitality staff to arrange on-the-job work experience for individuals
Oversee the learning and progress of apprentices employed in the cafe and support the off the job learning/training as required
When the young person is assessed as ready, work with colleagues to support the progression of the young person towards (external) employment or further education
Record and evidence the young person's progress throughout their learning and training in the cafe environment
At all times, provide an environment where young people will experience trust and belonging, feel valued and understood, can address challenges, and develop their confidence and resilience in moving forward

Requirements
You will be expected to:
Be able to encourage young people to participate in activities and inspire them to progress towards positive outcomes such as living more independently and/or securing employment
Demonstrate understanding and patience in providing additional support for those who have particularly learning needs
Potentially have experience of working in a hospitality and/or catering environment but may be a confident home cook who also understands good customer service
Have experience of training/teaching/supporting others
Lead by example by demonstrating good workplace behaviours (good presentation, hygiene, timekeeping etc) and a positive attitude towards work
Understand the issues affecting young people and in particular young people who are disadvantaged and/or living in poverty
Be solution focused, particularly in dealing with challenges facing young people
Be a supportive team player who can view situations from others perspective
Have a flexible approach and willingness to adapt as things change
Keep comprehensive and up to date records that clearly evidences the progress of learners
