Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Youth Counsellor and Wellbeing Officer to join our pastoral team at Sir John Nelthorpe School, starting in September 2025.


This is a vital role in supporting and promoting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of our students. You will deliver a high-quality SEMH (social, emotional and mental health), nurture and counselling service, working with children and young people on a one-to-one and group basis. This role will suit someone with a strong background in mental health or counselling, with a passion for helping young people build resilience and cope with the challenges they face.


You will work closely with colleagues across the school and with external agencies to develop and deliver targeted support programmes. The ability to form strong, trusting relationships with students, staff and families is essential.


We are looking for someone who:

Has relevant qualifications and experience in counselling, mental health, or youth work Understands the emotional and developmental needs of young people Is committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare Can work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals and agencies Has excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
