Bradford and Shipley College are working in collaboration alongside the Pears Foundation and AoC to appoint a highly motivated Youth Social Action apprentice.


The purpose of this role is to raise the awareness of Youth Social Action (YSA) and increase high-quality social action opportunities for students within both Bradford College and Shipley College.


This is an important role that will use students voices and actions in a meaningful way to bring a practical and positive difference to others and the environment. You will help to develop students' character, confidence and skills through social action that can support future employment


Your week will be split with 2 days at Bradford College, 2 days at Shipley College and 1 day studying towards your Level 3 Support Worker Apprenticeship.

Responsibilities include:

Support the team in raising awareness of the benefits of youth social action and embed it into the college culture. Learn how to coordinate and manage youth social action activities within the host and partner colleges. These activities will be student-led and in collaboration with local and national community organisations and charities to ensure wide participation, impact and sustainability of activities. Develop an understanding of how to empower students to take action and address local issues, as well as creating opportunities to undertake meaningful work experience around social action. Participate in consulting with students to understand their motivations to enable you to: Engage and retain students volunteering in YSA activities. Engage students of diverse backgrounds, abilities and experiences. Provide opportunities that are inclusive and cater to the needs of all students. In collaboration with your line manager and staff lead, learn to share best practice and, where applicable, resources across the two colleges you work in and further with the network of Youth Social Action Apprentices. Actively participate in a network of Youth Social Action Apprentices and positively engage and contribute to learning and development opportunities. Link to other national youth social action programmes where possible. Assist in engaging with local community groups and charities to understand the need and challenges in the area and to identify ways in which students could provide support. Shadow senior team members to understand how to engage with local employers for support and future sustainability. Complete administrative duties to support the efficient running of projects and robust monitoring and evaluation to ensure impact is understood and insight is captured.

Education & Training

GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale

Experience

Willingness to complete an 18 month Level 3 Youth Support Worker apprenticeship. Passionate about creating opportunities in Youth Social Action Passionate about developing young people Motivated to learn and committed to own personal and professional development Able to adapt quickly to different environments and systems and use problem solving skills where needed Basic use of Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as social media skills
