Job Description

We are looking to appoint a 1:1 Resource Base Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant and highly respected Individual Learning Department to support students with their learning. The post will be in our Communication and Interaction Resource Provision. You will be an excellent communicator with a good general education and strong interpersonal skills, to work with students with social, interaction and communication difficulties.

Key responsibilities include supporting students learning, either in lessons, small groups or through 1:1 work as well as supporting the development of their self-esteem, inclusion and behaviour. A commitment to help all young people and staff to achieve their best and a shared belief in our inclusive ethos is expected of all staff.

Hours of work will be 32.5 hours per week for 39 weeks per year.

Main Job Purpose

Under the direction of the teacher/s, to support a designated student with mobility needs to access learning.

Supporting the student to move around the school site in a wheelchair.

Support the student as they are ascending and descending stairs

Guiding the student through Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy exercises.

Duties and responsibilities

Clarify and explain instructions to children

Ensure children can use the equipment and materials provided

Motivate and support children

Meeting the student's physical needs as required while promoting independence.

Supporting children's self-esteem, inclusion, and behavioural development

Encourage an acceptance and inclusion of all children

Develop methods of promoting / reinforcing the children's self-esteem and independence

Encouraging acceptance and inclusion of the student with special needs

Ensuring the student is able to use equipment and materials provided

Supporting the teacher

Supervising work

Managing children's behaviour

Responding to children's questions

Health and safety

Promote the safety and wellbeing of all children

Maintain a safe learning environment by managing behaviour effectively in accordance with the Trust's behaviour policy
