is an after school art and craft class provider operating in primary schools in Elmbridge. Our classes are growing in number and we are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team for one or two sessions a week, leading a group of up to twelve children aged five to seven.
The ideal candidate will share our commitment to providing our students with an enriching experience and ensuring they produce work they can be proud of. They will deeply value children's creativity and understand the importance of providing a positive space for artistic expression, recognising the significant impact it has on their development.
Responsibilities (in classroom):
Lead art and craft sessions for children in an engaging and supportive manner.
Ensure that each child receives individual attention and guidance to develop their skills and creativity.
Implement our established curriculum to deliver high-quality projects.
Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where children feel comfortable.
Address any behaviour issues promptly and effectively while maintaining a positive atmosphere.
Follow both out Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies to ensure a safe environment for the children.
Take care of all AfterCrafts materials to ensure minimal wastage.
Carefully pack away all artwork and materials after class. Clean brushes, pots and palettes and wipe down tables and leave the classroom as you found it.
Responsibilities (outside class):
Read our project manual ensuring that you understand and are prepared for each class.
Maintain a high level of communication with the AfterCrafts office. This includes letting us know of any issues that arose after each class and sharing feedback on how the projects are going.
Prepare materials for the next class, as required for some projects (eg cut templates)
Provide after care for projects as and when necessary (eg, spray varnishing clay or fixing small breakages).
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
Experience leading a group of children, whether in the classroom, at an activity centre, sports club, theatre group or similar.
Either a minimum qualification of Art A-level or significant professional experience in art, craft or design.
Meticulous organisational skills and attention to detail.
Hours. Term time
: Normally 3.15pm to 4.15pm (with some variation between schools).
Pay
: 40 per session worked. This is based on each session lasting one hour but with approximately one hour of prep work done at home and approximately half an hour clearing up after each class. This will be discussed at the interview stage.
The successful candidate will be subject to DBS checks as required by both our Safeguarding policy and that of the schools where we operate. If you already have an Enhanced Level DBS certificate registered on the update system please let us know in your application as this will be considered an advantage. Up to date First Aid and Safeguarding training will also be considered an advantage.
