We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for Psychology, Humanities, and Social Science graduates to begin or advance their careers in education by working as an SEN & SEMH Learning Support Assistant in one of our partnered primary schools in Hackney. This role is especially suited to aspiring Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Mental Health Practitioners, and graduates passionate about child development, trauma-informed practice, and inclusive education.
You will be working closely with children who have Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profiles. Many pupils may experience challenges related to emotional regulation, attachment, sensory processing, or early life trauma. These pupils often require relational, calm, and consistent adults who can provide structure, safety, and understanding.
Your role will be crucial in helping these children feel regulated, valued, and ready to learn--supporting their communication skills, confidence, emotional wellbeing, and social development. You will work 1:1 and in small groups alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to create a nurturing and therapeutic learning environment.

  • Support emotional regulation using strategies such as co-regulation, visual timetables, sensory breaks, and relational approaches.
  • Implement and contribute to IEPs, EHCP targets, and positive behaviour support plans.
  • Facilitate social communication, confidence building, and resilience through structured activities and modelling.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to promote consistent, whole-child support.
  • Record observations, monitor progress, and share feedback with staff and parents when required.
