About the Role
As Team Leader, you'll take an active leadership role on shift -- modelling best practice, supporting colleagues, and ensuring consistent, high-quality care. You'll play a vital part in creating a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment, while preparing for future progression into Deputy Management through mentoring, responsibility, and development opportunities.
Your Key Responsibilities
Care Leadership and Support for Young People
Support children in developing emotional regulation, independence, and key life skills
Build trusting relationships and lead meaningful keyworking sessions
Monitor and maintain Placement Plans and Risk Assessments
Champion trauma-informed care and consistent routines
Work collaboratively with professionals, schools, and families
Shift Management and Team Guidance
Oversee daily operations and ensure effective shift handovers
Allocate roles and support staff across the home
Mentor junior team members and agency staff
Cultivate a supportive, reflective team culture
Safeguarding and Incident Oversight
Respond appropriately to safeguarding issues and lead debriefs after incidents
Monitor risks including absconding, CSE, or bullying, and act swiftly
Ensure detailed and accurate record keeping
Organisation and Compliance
Maintain high standards across cleanliness, safety, and presentation
Audit logs, reports, medication records, and keywork documentation
Manage petty cash, stock levels, and household checks
Contribute to inspections and internal audits
Communication and Reporting
Work closely with social workers, schools, and external professionals
Share insights and updates with senior leaders
Actively participate in team meetings and planning sessions
Training and Development
Complete mandatory training and encourage team development
Promote a learning culture through best practice discussions
Begin taking on Deputy-level responsibilities through guided support
Additional Operational Duties
Coordinate external appointments
Help plan daily activities, birthdays, and meaningful routines
Take part in household tasks to ensure structure and consistency
What We're Looking For
At least 2 years of experience in residential childcare or similar
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or working towards it)
Confident leadership and effective problem-solving skills
Strong communication and organisational ability
Resilient, reflective, and child-centred approach
Full UK driving licence preferred
