Salary: 24,790-26,001 (FTE)

We are looking to appoint to the post of Attendance and Parental Engagement Officer, a professional, reliable and competent person with the necessary skills to carry out the post.

The purpose of the role is to assist in the maintenance and improvement of whole school attendance and punctuality by ensuring stringent housekeeping of attendance data, in line with school expectation. To work closely with parents and carers of pupils, building positive relationships and securing their full engagement to support their children to reach their full academic potential.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, an approachable, confident manner and an empathy with young people. They will have recent and relevant experience and will be able to demonstrate good communication, organisation and the ability to work positively with young people.

Job Purpose:



To assist in the maintenance and improvement of whole school attendance and punctuality by ensuring stringent housekeeping of attendance data, in line with school expectation. To work closely with parents and carers of pupils, building positive relationships and securing their full engagement to support their children to reach their full academic potential.

To ensure all registers are completed by teachers and no missing marks or unexplained absences remain.

To monitor the correct usage of attendance codes.

To deal with phone messages about pupil absence on a daily basis.

To meet and greet pupils before registration at the main school gate in an effort to improve punctuality.

To operate the first-day communication system with regard to unexplained absences.

To undertake home and school visits as designated by the school/Educational Welfare Officer.

To interpret information relating to attendance patterns and identify key areas of concern for Progress Leaders and Assistant Heads.

To work closely with pupils and parents where pupil attendance requires improvement, setting improvement targets and reviewing attendance plans.

To have a particular focus on working with pupils whose attendance needs to improve, who are in receipt of free school meals and/or at risk of becoming NEET.

To support the work of the EWO.

To support pupils who are absent from school because of illness, etc, by taking and collecting school work, etc.

To work closely with the pastoral team in all matters relating to attendance.

To attend pastoral team meetings.

To prepare weekly/termly/annual attendance reports for the pastoral team and the Leadership Team.

To prepare attendance reports/letters for parents/carers on a termly basis.

To administer the rewards scheme for 100% attenders.

To award achievement points on a weekly and termly basis in line with our School Behaviour Policy.

To make recommendations to the pastoral team and the Leadership Team regarding whole school policy in relation to attendance.

To cover registration and lessons on occasions when necessary.

To undertake appropriate training to develop pastoral skills.

Contribute to the planning, development and organisation of support service systems / procedures / policies.

To assist and check records prior to PLASC to ensure school attendance is accurate and up to date.

To collate, maintain and update attendance data on a regular basis.

Complete and submit complex forms, returns, etc, including those to outside agencies, e.g. Welsh Government Attendance Return.

To attend parents' evenings, meetings and evening events in order to encourage and develop parental engagement.

To evaluate and report upon parental questionnaires and feedback from events/meetings.

To take part in the school's Performance Management process.

Responsibilities:



Comply with and assist with the development of procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

To positively promote our school within the local community.

Establish constructive relationships and communicate effectively with other agencies/professionals.

Attend and participate in relevant meetings and events.

Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.

Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.

General Duties:



To ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with Equal Opportunities legislation and the Flintshire County Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.

To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the level of the post.

The post holder may be required to perform other duties other than those given above. These may vary from time to time without changing the general level of responsibility. Such variations would not justify the re-evaluation of a post.

NB: All staff are required to complete a 6 month probationary period, during which time suitability for the post will be assessed.
