BASE (Body and Soul Education)

programme integrates regular training, supervision, and reflective practice into the daily lives of our Teaching Assistants. We believe in investing in our staff by providing weekly BASE supervision and training sessions, focused on the

emotional literacy, regulation, and resilience

that young people need to thrive in today's world.

Streetz Ahead Teaching Assistants are not only classroom support staff - they are trained to build meaningful relationships, support emotional development, and help pupils feel seen, safe, and understood. Many of our staff have supported children to make significant life changes and are nurtured to stay and grow with the organisation.

Main Objectives



To work as part of a dedicated team to provide learning and emotional support for pupils, particularly those with social, emotional, or special educational needs. This includes:

Supporting access to learning

Promoting emotional well-being, self-awareness, and a sense of safety and belonging

Contributing to a trauma-informed, emotionally safe school environment

Taking part in weekly BASE supervision and training

Main ResponsibilitiesSupport for Pupils



1. Build nurturing relationships and offer consistent, safe adult support to individual pupils.

2. Provide tailored support to children with SEMH and SEN, including implementing Behaviour or Individual Learning Plans.

3. Support pupils' self-regulation, confidence, and participation in learning through BASE-informed strategies.

4. Encourage inclusive play, communication, and emotional expression.

5. Observe and reflect on pupils' emotional and behavioural needs, contributing to reviews and planning.

Support for Teachers and the School



1. Work collaboratively with class teachers and BASE staff to co-plan emotional and academic support strategies.

2. Maintain high expectations of pupils while encouraging independence and self-esteem.

3. Support classroom routines, behaviour management and create an environment that fosters safety and belonging.

4. Assist with the preparation of resources and learning materials.

5. Record observations and progress, both academic and emotional, in line with the school and Streetz Ahead systems.

6. Participate in staff meetings, planning and review sessions, and contribute actively to whole-school initiatives.

Support for the Curriculum



1. Implement planned learning activities and adapt them to meet individual pupil needs.

2. Use ICT and creative tools to support emotional and academic development.

3. Assist pupils in developing both curriculum knowledge and emotional skills such as focus, cooperation, and resilience.

Professional Development



1. Attend

weekly BASE reflective supervision and training

with Streetz Ahead's senior mentors and therapeutic team.

2. Actively engage in personal development around child development, social and emotional learning, trauma-informed practice, and creative interventions.

3. Reflect on professional practice and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Person Specification - Teaching Assistant (BASE Programme)



Experience



Experience of working with children in an educational, mentoring or therapeutic context.

Experience supporting children with emotional or behavioural challenges is desirable.

Qualifications



Good literacy/numeracy skills (GCSE Level or equivalent)

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent (can be supported post-appointment)

Willingness to undertake BASE training and other relevant CPD

Skills & Knowledge



Understanding of social and emotional development in children

Ability to build trusting relationships with children and adults

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Basic understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Pay: 90.00-100.00 per day
