Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Bookkeeper to join the friendly team that makes up our accountancy practice based in Hove, East Sussex.

We work with small and owner-manager businesses, providing a full range of accounting services. As part of our bookkeeping team, communication skills, flexibility and the ability to adapt to meet the needs of different customers are vital. You will also have the experience to work independently, understanding what to prioritise during busy periods.

The key responsibilities will include:

- bookkeeping, primarily on Xero, for a variety of business types, including shops, restaurants, builders, consultants etc, encompassing a variety of VAT situations. This includes bookkeeping to Trial Balance from incomplete records and ensuring that the required documentation has been received in preparation for passing to our Accountants at the year end. The role will involve both working with some clients on a regular basis and completing one-off or year end only work for others

- sending queries to clients and dealing with their responses, including chasing clients as needed

- responding to queries from clients

- preparation of VAT and CIS returns

- completion of month end processes, including adjustments and identifying errors and their correction

- payroll processing

The ideal candidate will:

- have AAT level 4 or equivalent (preferred but not essential)

- have 2 years + bookkeeping experience, preferably in a bookkeeping or accountancy practice

- be a competent user of Excel and Outlook

- be confident in using Xero

35 hours per week but can be flexible.

This is an office based role, however, it may be possible for occasional home working after the probationary period.
