Cool Chile Co. is a vibrant and growing business for over 25 years, we are passionate about bringing authentic Mexican flavours to the UK. We supply high-quality chillies, masa harina, tortillas, and more to retailers, restaurants, wholesalers and home cooks. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented bookkeeper to manage our financial help ensure the smooth running of our day-to-day accounting operations.
Job Summary
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, daily allocation, managing supplier invoices, payment run, raising credits, processing transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, and supporting month-end and year-end processes. This role is ideal for someone with a strong grasp of accounting principles, good attention to detail, and a proactive approach.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate financial records using Xero.
Process supplier invoices, payments, and staff expenses.
Raise and send customer invoices, follow up on overdue accounts.
Reconcile bank, credit card, and supplier statements.
Monitor cash flow and report on variances.
Assist with payroll preparation and HMRC submissions (if applicable).
Prepare and submit VAT returns.
Support with month-end journals and reporting.
Liaise with external accountants for annual accounts.
Maintain organised records for audits and tax compliance.
Support general office administration and ad hoc tasks as needed.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role.
Proficiency with accounting software (Xero, Sage, or similar).
Strong Excel skills and familiarity with Google Workspace / MS Office.
Knowledge of UK accounting practices, VAT, and payroll procedures.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
Qualifications
AAT Level 3 or 4, or equivalent bookkeeping/accounting qualification is preferred but not required.
Experience in an SME or food/FMCG environment is a plus.
