Job Description

Open Bakery is a truly authentic bakery, honouring traditions and customs from bakeries across Europe. Most of our products are made fresh on the day at our Kemptown shop and savoury kitchen. As well as the bakery and savoury kitchen, work goes on downstairs in our patisserie where we make and bake fresh pastries and cakes. We also make our own biscuits, jams and seasonal treats, and teaching baking classes.

We are looking for a full-time front of house manager for our busy shop/cafe in the idyllic location of Queen's Park. The role would suit someone with a background in hospitality and a passion for exceptional food and service. You will need to have a real eye for detail and be able to maintain high standards of customer service at all times. This is very much a varied and dynamic role, so adaptability and willingness to learn are key.



Duties include:

Ensuring excellent customer service and experience from yourself and all members of your team (your front of house team will be around 5 members of staff) Overseeing standards of food safety, and upkeep of record keeping for the shop Liaising with general manager and communicating any problems or grievances or recommending when you feel assistance, support, capability or disciplinary procedures may be appropriate. Training or organising training for retail staff regards food safety; general operations; setting up and closing of shop procedures and checklists; product knowledge; customer service; till use and money-handling. Visual retail display Maintaining the high standard in quality and consistency of coffee served Cash handling, cashing-up and keeping cash book. Communicating with other team leaders to ensure the smooth running of operations in the shop. Organise the staff rota, and arrange cover when needed Monitor shop emails and respond appropriately and when about customer orders enquiries. write production schedules for bread and patisserie sales bake acroissant and selection of prepared savoury items drive our electric van, transporting stock from the main bakery to Queen's Park help with flour deliveries once or twice a week

Experience that would be essential:



Experience managing a team.

Coffee making using an espresso-based machine.

Great communication skills.

Excellent customer service in a hospitality role.

Drivers licence


You will need to be available to work around 40 hours a week over five days, including Saturdays. The shop is open from 8am until 4pm Monday to Saturday, and shifts can start as early as 6am.
