To operate and monitor CCTV systems in compliance with legislation, codes of practice, and council policies. The postholder will work proactively and responsively to detect and deter crime, support enforcement, and ensure public safety through effective use of CCTV technology and strong partnership working with police, council services, and other agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Operate CCTV equipment and cameras proactively and in response to incidents, ensuring compliance with the Council's CCTV Code of Practice.
Respond to CCTV requests from police, council departments, insurance companies, and other agencies.
Use radio and communications systems to liaise with police and coordinate responses to incidents.
Record, capture, and maintain CCTV footage, logs, and evidence to evidential standards for use in court.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all information obtained.
Identify and report technical faults in CCTV systems, ensuring prompt resolution.
Maintain control room security and oversee visitor access.
Assist others in using IT and CCTV systems; operate current and new technologies effectively.
Work a 24/7 shift rota, including weekends and bank holidays, in uniform.
Provide accurate written reports, statements, and evidence packs for enforcement or legal purposes.
Uphold GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Human Rights Act, and other relevant legislation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
BTEC Level 2 or above in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance).
SIA CCTV (PSS) licence (essential).
Experience
Experience working in public space CCTV control rooms.
Partnership working with police and external agencies.
Operating CCTV monitoring equipment, recording systems, and working to Codes of Practice.
Familiarity with Synectics and Vigilant CCTV systems (desirable).
Skills & Knowledge
Strong understanding of criminal offences and categories.
Ability to ensure continuity of evidential material.
Effective written and verbal communication, including producing accurate reports and statements.
IT literacy, including use of email and report writing.
Ability to operate radio systems confidently.
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with officers, partners, and the public.
Other Requirements
Must pass Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
Must pass Police vetting (NPPV Level 1 minimum).
Must meet Baseline Personnel Security Standards.
