Salary: 35,000

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week



Scope and Purpose:



We're a small charity that makes a huge difference to the lives of children and young people who face difficulties at home and in their everyday lives. Over the last 30 Years, over 20,000 children aged 8 to 13, from across the country have spent an unforgettably brilliant week at our residential centres in Cornwall and Derbyshire. Looking ahead, we want to welcome more than 1100 young people every year, while enabling new friendships and learning new skills. They spend the majority of the week outside, toasting marshmallows by the fireside, going orienteering and climbing, along with other more creative and group based activities. When the week is over, they go home, having made memories that last a lifetime.

As Centre Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of the centre, including the property, grounds, vehicles and also manage the on-site team and volunteers, leading them to support and deliver an exceptional Go Beyond experience for children who come on our Breaks. These are residential breaks for small groups of children aged 8-13, who stay with us Monday to Friday during most weeks throughout the year.

You will ensure the centre is operated and maintained in accordance with all relevant legislation, making sure we are safe, secure, and compliant. We have ambitions to develop our site and you will help us with continual improvement of our breaks, facilities and our environmental and sustainability practices.

We aim to maximise the use of the centre and generate income. Your role will be pivotal in raising our profile in the local community, encouraging people to use our centre, supporting potential events, third-party use of our facilities and including the small, self-contained cottage and the main buildings, which we let.

You will lead the local team including; Team Leaders, Break Leaders, Maintenance, Housekeeping and Centre Cook along with volunteers (including groups of corporate volunteers who help us with on-site tasks). Ensuring not only the buildings, grounds and on-site activity areas are always at their best and ready to be enjoyed, but ensuring the centre is kept clean and welcoming for our visitors and that our children receive a healthy, nutritious meals during their stay. As a charity, we need to make sure this is all kept within budget.

You will need to be financially astute with a keen eye for detail and have practical and working knowledge of general building and estate management, HACCP, COSHH, Legionella, Asbestos, Fire Safety, Risk Assessment and Waste & contractor Management.

You will have a sound knowledge of managing a range of activities, being able to oversee the development of risk assessments and session plans, along with young people's safeguarding. You will need an understanding of the importance of how activities can develop curiosity, confidence, resilience and communication skills in children and young people.

You will be a proactive, independent thinker able to manage themselves and lead a team to inspire and ensure Go Beyond provide the best opportunities to young people whilst they are visiting our centres.

Key responsibilities



Operations:



Responsible for assessing risks, ensuring Health & Safety compliance, asset management, planning, and delivering action plans and regularly reviewing these. Responsible for ensuring all contractors are fully inducted and follow the site safeguarding protocol. Responsible for Contract management including reviews and renewals. To manage the onsite Housekeeping, Maintenance, Catering personnel and Team Leaders including; managing performance, target setting, planning staff training needs, cascading operational objectives, and managing leave and absences. Develop, implement and review the Land Management and Centre Management plans. Responsible for the management and maintenance of all resources assigned to the centre, including site security, buildings, vehicles, land and equipment and ensuring they are maintained and fit for purpose, replaced as required and set out in the management plan. Maintain GDPR and other legal, regulatory and compliance records and planning and oversight of servicing, maintenance and regulatory safety checks. To manage resources in a cost-effective manner and improve sustainability in all aspects of our work, including reducing energy, improving recycling, and harvesting rainwater. Manage and liaise with customers and agents for lettings (Farmhouse and Cottage) providing assistance as required.

Breaks:



Accountable for the safety and welfare of the staff, children and young people, including the overseeing of risk assessments and session plans. Deputy Safeguarding lead. Responsible for defining the strategic growth and development of the centre delivery programme. Produce centre based quarterly reports for SLT regarding H&S, Incidents and accidents, Centre and Land development projects including those completed by Corporate Volunteers Manage the allocated expenditure budget and reporting Develop new and existing relationships with the local community and partner agencies e.g. youth organisations. Ability to deputise for Operations Director and/or Director of Development and Sustainability as required.

Job Specific Competencies:



Essential



Satisfactory DBS check Previous experience in hard and soft facilities including land and fleet management Ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplined team Computer literate, use of Windows and Office software Ability to create reports, analyse data and provide feedback Experienced in Risk assessment and managing safe practice Understanding of safeguarding and welfare of children and staff Understanding of child-centred activities to develop confidence, resilience and communication skills Excellent communicator Problem solver Qualified first aider or willingness to be trained. Full Driving Licence

Recognised Facilities Management Qualification Managing Safely, Risk & Project Management Qualifications Food Safety Qualification level 3 Experience of working in child focussed environments. Previous budget management experience and can demonstrate commercial acumen
