Role Overview
As a Chartered Structural Engineer at CSP, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality structural engineering solutions across various sectors, including commercial, residential, infrastructure, and industrial projects. You will be responsible for leading structural design work, managing projects, and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Additionally, you will be involved in
RAAC
(Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) assessments, contributing to investigations, reporting, and remedial design solutions. Flexibility to travel across the UK and internationally may be required for site inspections, client meetings, and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Design
Lead the structural design of projects from concept to completion, ensuring compliance with UK design codes and regulations (Eurocodes, British Standards, Building Regulations).
Conduct site inspections, condition evaluations, and preparation of remedial solutions.
Perform structural analysis, feasibility studies, and design calculations for steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures.
Provide technical oversight on complex projects, ensuring innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and reports prepared by junior engineers and technicians.
Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, and contractors to deliver integrated design solutions.
Undertake site visits, inspections, and structural assessments to provide technical input and resolve design/construction issues.
Project & Team Management
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Prepare project documentation, including technical reports, specifications, and design calculations.
Support the development of junior engineers and technicians through mentoring, training, and technical guidance.
Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring strong communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
Be willing and able to travel for site inspections, client meetings, and technical consultations as required.
RAAC Expertise
Willingness to be trained in RAAC assessments.
Provide remedial design solutions for RAAC structures, ensuring compliance with the latest industry guidance.
Business Development & Leadership
Support business growth by contributing to proposals, bids, and tenders.
Engage with clients to understand project requirements and provide engineering solutions tailored to their needs.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation within the company.
Represent CSP in professional and industry events to enhance the company's reputation and networking opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience:
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (MEng/BEng) from an accredited institution.
Chartered or working towards chartership (CEng MIStructE or MICE) is highly desirable.
Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in structural engineering.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as Tekla, Tedds, FEM, Robot, ETABS and use of Revit and AutoCAD an advantage.
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and sustainability principles in structural design.
Ability to travel for site inspections, client meetings, and technical consultations.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interaction and report writing.
