Job Description

12.35 -13.18 per hour depending on experience. 25-27.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9.30am -2.30/3pm

50 weeks per annum (pre-school is closed 13/8/26-28/8/26). Permanent contract with holiday allowance during term times approx. 12 days). Annual leave allowance to also be used during 1 week at Christmas (w/c 22/12/25) and 1 week at Easter (13/4/26) and bank holidays.

Pro rata wage depending on hours Sept25-aug26

Green Shoots is an Early Years setting with a strong focus on offering children healthy activities, healthy snacks and lunches and healthy choices in their early years development. We are looking for an enthusiastic cook/chef who is interested in preparing fresh hot meals for up to 28 pre-school children and 7 staff. Our kitchen has a hatch window linking to the main pre-school room, we believe that mealtimes, food preparation and cooking should be shared with young children and as our pre-school chef/cook we would welcome you into our community and value your skills. Essential Skills and Qualifications:



Valid level 2/3 Food Safety Certificate (easily obtained online)

Pre-School Chef



Main Objective



To maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen and to be responsible for the preparation and cooking of a well-balanced and nutritious snack and lunch menus.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



Work with the management team to follow/plan a balanced rotating menu taking into account dietary and cultural requirements of children and staff that attend the pre-school.

To complete regular and updated Food Hygiene training as and when necessary.

Adhere to the Food and Nutrition Guidelines during the preparation, cooking and serving of all food.

Ensure food is hygienically stored and food storage areas are kept clean.

To order stock and deliveries in line with requirements and budget control. Maintaining correct stock levels, ensuring stock rotation and ensuring all stock is clearly labelled to include expiry dates.

Ensure that high standards of hygiene and safety are maintained at all times in the kitchen through daily cleaning and monitoring kitchen equipment.

Ensure all crockery and utensils are washed up as appropriate.

Maintaining freezers and refrigerators are at correct temperature.

Ensuring the effective and regular removal of waste materials to the designated waste store.

Ensure all catering related accidents are reported immediately to the manager and all appropriate documentation is completed.

General



Enjoy working with children in a busy and fun environment and with a friendly staff team

Participate in celebration events, open days and fundraising events.

Adhere to a professional code of conduct and appropriate dress.

Attend any other relevant duties to the post, e.g. staff meetings where necessary.
