Job Description

Who We Are

The Long Table is a social enterprise using food to build a fairer, more connected world. We run welcoming spaces where everyone is invited to eat, regardless of financial situation -- serving beautiful, seasonal food on a Pay-As-You-Can basis.

We believe in radical hospitality, not just service. We're about slowing down, doing things differently, and building kitchens and tables that are more human, more sustainable, and more generous.

At our Cirencester site, we're focusing on daily lunch service, amazing cakes and coffee, and a handful of high-impact evening events each month -- like community suppers and seasonal dinners. We're rooted in local relationships, and always looking for people who want to grow something with care and intention.

The Role

We're looking for a skilled, thoughtful chef to join our kitchen team -- someone excited to help lead service, work shoulder-to-shoulder with our crew, and feed our community well.

You'll work closely with our existing chef, sharing responsibility for delivering lunch service Tuesday to Saturday, Saturday evening service and supporting a small number of intentional evening events, and holding the daily rhythm of prep, care, and quality in the kitchen.

You'll lead shifts, guide others, and contribute to a kitchen culture where everyone is learning, growing, and proud of what we're putting on the table.

What You'll Be Doing

Lead from the line: Take ownership of daily lunch service and kitchen flow, helping keep the standard high and the vibe kind. Collaborate with our chef team: Share planning, prep, and ideas for our evolving menu, which changes weekly and always features seasonal produce. Occasional evenings: Help deliver up to 1-2 special evening offers a month -- things like supplier suppers or community dinners. Mentor with care: Support junior team members, holding the balance of skill-sharing and keeping service on track. Respect the system: Order sensibly, work clean, and cook with intention -- minimising waste and holding GP with support from leadership.

Who You Are

A confident cook, with solid experience in a cafe, restaurant, or canteen setting. Someone who leads calmly and listens generously -- you're good with people and care about team rhythm. Up for working mostly daytimes, with the occasional evening when it matters. Interested in seasonal food, local suppliers, and making great food available to everyone - Pay-As-You-Can isn't a gimmick for you, it's a principle.

Bonus If You've Got...

Fermentation, baking, or preserving experience. Comfort using socials to share what's cooking. Experience working with young people or supported placements.

What You'll Get

A brilliant team of humans who give a damn -- about food, about each other, and about doing it differently. Time and support to grow into the role. Proper breaks, paid meals on shift, and 25 days holiday + bank hols. A kitchen culture that values balance, collaboration, and joy.
To apply, send your CV and a few words about why you'd like to work with us - and what radical hospitality means to you - to kirsty@thelongtableonline.com by Monday 2 June 2025.

Amazing things happen when we eat together. Come help make it happen.
