Join National Star in Hereford as a Cook, preparing nutritious, tailored meals for young adults with complex disabilities while maintaining high food safety standards.



We are looking for a reliable and experienced Cook to join the team at National Star at our residential home for young adults with complex disabilities in Hereford. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality catering services that meet the dietary needs and preferences of our residents.

As a Cook, you'll work with colleagues and residents to plan and prepare healthy, nutritious, and cost-effective meals. You'll ensure that food hygiene and safety standards are consistently met, and that meals are tailored to individual dietary requirements, including specialist diets and allergens.

Key responsibilities:

Plan menus in collaboration with residents and staff, working within an agreed budget Prepare, cook and present meals to a high standard using healthy ingredients Ensure meals meet the nutritional needs of all residents, including those with specific dietary requirements Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in line with environmental health guidelines Monitor and record food temperatures, stock rotation, and food safety checks Support occasional special events and work flexibly across shift patterns Comply with all relevant organisational policies, including health and safety and COSHH

What we're looking for:

Essential:

Experience in food preparation and hygiene Ability to work within a set budget Understanding of nutrition and dietary needs Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team Able to work independently and maintain high standards of cleanliness

Desirable:

Experience in a care, commercial or group catering setting Knowledge of current food-related legislation and environmental health standards Food hygiene qualifications (e.g., Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, 706/1, 706/2 or equivalent)
