Lead Chef & Mentor
to support and inspire young people aged 16-25 with
special educational needs
in our
school.
About the Role:
You will lead hands on kitchen sessions in a supportive training environment, working closely with our learners to develop practical catering skills, build confidence, and foster independence. As a mentor, you will play a key role in guiding and nurturing everyone's personal and professional growth.
Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging cooking and hospitality sessions
Support learners with SEN in developing skills in food preparation, hygiene, and customer service
Provide individual guidance and mentorship
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment
Coordinate small events or internal catering services as part of learning outcomes
Collaborate with SEN educators and support staff to tailor approaches
Requirements:
Passion for mentoring and working with young people, particularly those with SEN
Understanding of diverse learning needs and inclusive practice
Proven experience as a chef or cook, ideally in an educational or SEN setting
Excellent communication, patience, and leadership skills
Strong understanding of dietary needs, allergens, and food hygiene.
Level 2 or 3 Food Safety Certificate
Desirable:
Proven experience as a chef or cook, ideally in an educational or SEN setting
Level 2 or 3 Food Safety Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
