Facilitates creative cuisine using surplus and seasonal food and supervises/supports guest chefs as needed. Menu development for cafe as well as specific events with assistance from Climatarian Kitchen staff and volunteers. Plates should always be 75% plant based, and meat dishes should follow Climatarian principles (e.g. our signature burger is grated mushrooms, beef mince). Direct management of kitchen staff and volunteers and associated administrative and organizational duties. Success in this position would be movement progressing to the Executive Chef position, growing the team, and eventually consideration for Collective directorship if desired.
Responsibilities and duties
Develop menu for cafe and specific events for the community (menus should always have plant based, animal based, and allergen free options)
Preps and cooks for cafe (Thursdays - Saturdays) and ad hoc catering bookings, which can be on other days, including Sundays.
Supervises kitchen staff and on the job training
Collects surplus from local suppliers as needed
Oversees cleaning of kitchen, food preparation, and storage spaces and kitchen laundry
Maintain relevant inventories (e.g. food and equipment) and stock rotation
Liaise with Cherwell Collective staff and community partners (e.g. Good Food Oxford)
Keep accurate records of activities including inventories, cleaning, SFBB (Food safety management procedures and food hygiene regulations), etc
Posts photos of food, recipes, updates as needed on social media
Act as an honest spokesperson for Cherwell Collective if needed.
REGULAR AVAILABLE HOURS
These hours are flexible, for example if you have a large event requiring evening work Friday or Saturday you are not expected to work the following Tuesday/ you can trade hours to keep at 37.5 weekly (you will be able to determine your own break times).

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
Excellent time management
Personal organization and ability to stay on task
Excellent leadership skills
Flexibility in cooking skills
Knowledge of multiple cuisines
Experience with food surplus uses and variety
Ability to delegate and manage duties and staff
Willingness to train further as needed
Food hygiene and safety training level 3 or above
Experience running of a professional kitchen
Experience in organising staffing and rotas
Experience in supplies ordering and receiving
Experience in menu planning, producing seasonal menus using in season ingredients
Ensuring all areas of the kitchen are fully equipped at all times
Must have experience in staff training
Ability to use judgement and perform well under pressure
Desired:
Experience of volunteering in the community.
Understanding of how to demonstrate Climatarian cooking principles
Desire to make a name for yourself in the culinary world
Classic French training
Knowledge of plant growing and seasonality of produce locally and experience harvesting, fishing, hunting, etc
Personal License for alcohol sales

MILESTONES30 days:
Open Climatarian Kitchen at MoorsideFill necessary support staff positions and create menus and appropriate stock and systems on site.
90 days:
Prepare new stock after the Christmas mass distribution and create menu and plan for the Big Lunch in January.
