Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Pharmaceutical Distribution & Online Pharmacy

We are a London-based pharmaceutical startup building both an online pharmacy and a pharmaceutical distribution business. We operate across B2C and B2B channels, serving domestic and international markets. Our focus is on compliant, tech-enabled operations that deliver high-quality service and sustainable growth.
Position Summary
The COO will establish, lead, and scale all operational functions across pharmacy and distribution. This role includes licensing, supplier relationship development, team building, and operational excellence. The position is a senior leadership role with significant autonomy and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the setup and management of online pharmacy operations in compliance with GPhC standards
Develop the pharmaceutical distribution arm and lead WDA(H) licensing
Ensure compliance with GDP and MHRA requirements across all operations
Build and manage supplier/manufacturer relationships and buying strategies
Recruit, manage, and develop cross-functional teams, including Superintendent Pharmacist and Responsible Person (RP)
Design and implement scalable processes for warehousing, cold chain (as required), and logistics
Oversee day-to-day operations, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives
Own operational budgets and contribute to company-wide P&L management
Develop operational strategies for both B2B and B2C channels, domestic and international
Implement technology and data-driven practices to improve efficiency and quality
Required Qualifications
10+ years of senior management experience in pharmaceutical distribution, wholesale, or multi-channel pharmacy operations
Proven experience with pharmaceutical licensing and regulatory frameworks (GPhC, MHRA, GDP, WDA(H))
Strong network within the UK pharmaceutical supply chain (manufacturers, wholesalers, pharmacy groups)
Demonstrated track record of building and scaling operations
Experience leading cross-functional teams in regulated environments
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) required; advanced degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in startup or high-growth environments
Experience establishing new distribution or pharmacy operations
International pharmaceutical trade experience
Familiarity with warehouse management systems and digital/tech-enabled operations
Previous P&L responsibility
