Project Overview

Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) is a major HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission project that will enhance the UK's electricity transmission system by enabling the delivery of renewable energy from Scotland to England. The project includes the construction of converter stations, underground cabling, and other critical infrastructure.

Role Purpose

The Civils Construction Manager will be responsible for leading the delivery of all civil engineering aspects of the converter station construction works for the EGL1 project. This includes overseeing site preparation, groundworks, substructure and superstructure installation, drainage, road access, and associated infrastructure. The role requires proactive coordination with contractors, internal teams, and external stakeholders to ensure safe, timely, and compliant execution.

Key Responsibilities

Site Management & Delivery:



Manage day-to-day on-site civil works for the converter station(s).

Ensure works are completed safely, on time, and to specification.

Supervise civil subcontractors and enforce site controls and logistics.

Programme & Planning:



Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules.

Ensure alignment with project milestones and critical path activities.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):



Lead and enforce a strong safety culture on site.

Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and project HSE requirements.

Quality & Compliance:



Ensure all civil works comply with drawings, specifications, and QA/QC procedures.

Review and approve Inspection & Test Plans, Method Statements, and Risk Assessments.

Stakeholder Coordination:



Interface with engineering design teams, the client, local authorities, and utilities.

Participate in progress meetings, report on status and risks.

Commercial & Contractual:



Support procurement and contract administration for civil works.

Monitor and report on contractor progress, variations, and claims.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:



Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent).

10+ years of relevant experience in large-scale civil infrastructure or energy projects.

Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary civil teams.

Working knowledge of NEC or FIDIC contract forms.

Valid SMSTS or equivalent health and safety certification.

Desirable:



Previous experience on HVDC, substation, or major grid infrastructure projects.

Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with ICE or equivalent.

Understanding of UK environmental and planning regulations.

Pay: 500.00-600.00 per day
