Job Summary



The climbing room is YMCA Taunton's new purpose-built indoor climbing facility, with an anticipated excellent revenue stream and opportunity to forge strong relationships with local schools, colleges, businesses and community stakeholders. We are looking for a Climbing Instructor/Supervisor to develop and grow the facility in meeting the current and future demand and expanding our offer to the local community.

To oversee the day-to-day running of the facility, develop method statements of use and risk assessments (with assistance from an external Technical Advisor as appropriate) whilst ensuring sufficient staffing, development of sessions, including roll out. Working alongside the C.E.O. to grow and develop the facility to meet contribution targets and strategic growth of service.

To supervise, instruct and train adults, children and organised groups whilst supporting staff in the use of the climbing centre, ensuring a safe, enjoyable and financially efficient service.

Duties and Responsibilities



To lead on day-to-day administrations duties for the climbing room

To grow and develop the climbing staff team appropriately

To operate and manage the membership software system and electronic point of sale equipment, develop and to sell merchandise and other products in the climbing front of house service

To raise awareness of session provision and general image of the Climbing Room & Centre via our marketing team

To meet financial targets set by the C.E.O. and meet regularly to ensure profitability of the centre

To effectively induct, support and advise brand new climbers, and climbers attending our Climbing room service for the first time

To undertake instruction of general public classes in a safe and professional manner

To oversee the climbing facilities to the highest recognised safety standards and practices, including regular inspection of climbing wall structure

To proactively monitor equipment quality and ensure that all necessary equipment is fit for purpose

To monitor and ensure all customers' safe use of climbing wall and associated equipment

To understand and uphold the instructions of all management Risk Assessments and Procedures relating to use of the climbing wall facility and develop these in line with industry trends

To appropriately report any accidents or incidents, in line with YMCA Taunton procedure

To contribute to discussions about service targets and ensure those targets are delivered

To manage the provision and planning of events as required

To promote the Climbing room and work collaboratively with other YMCA Taunton services, specifically Youth team

To proactively engage in community outreach and maintain excellent working relationships with schools, businesses and the public by whom the facilities are used

To maintain good relations with other staff/volunteers on a day-to-day basis as necessary

To undertake any other duties as required which are appropriate

We are a

To work towards the Rock Climbing Instructor qualification, if not already attained

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Temporary

Pay: 25,400.00-33,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
