The Group Therapy Centre is a long-established, not-for-profit, psychological treatment service, and is unique in providing both short and long-term group therapy. We have a mixed funding model of NHS Commissioning and therapy fees on a sliding scale which enables us to provide the space our clients need to work through their difficulties. We treat a wide variety of conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar, personality disorders and complex trauma presentations. We have a culture of ensuring people's financial situation does not determine their access to appropriate psychological group therapy.
We have a programme of CBT group therapy, Compassion Focussed Group Therapy. Schema Group Therapy and Group Analytic Psychotherapy. The Centre currently hosts 23 weekly therapy groups - our therapy groups are conducted both in-person from our base at Downing Place, Cambridge and online.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, and adaptable person to provide clinical leadership and supervision for our dedicated and experienced team of Group Therapists who have trainings in Group Analysis, CBT, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Schema Therapy and Individual Psychotherapy.
The main responsibilities of the post are to ensure the delivery of a safe, effective and quality service for our service users. The post-holder reports to the Centre Director and will also contribute to the development of the Centre's activities, the fundraising work and matters of policy, advocacy and liaison with other organisations.
Role Responsibilities
To lead and manage the psychological therapies service within the Group Therapy Centre.
To oversee clinical decisions about accepting referrals, decisions about the appropriate therapeutic treatment for the client, decisions about further treatments and services to offer clients, and about clients leaving the service.
To make clinical governance decisions where necessary
To act as the safeguarding lead for The Group Therapy Centre
To organise supervision for the team which is currently two part-time clinicians who you will join as the "core team" and 13 sessional group analysts and CBT therapists.
To Liaise with clinical supervisors.
To support trainee Group Analysts and CBT therapists in their clinical placements with the Centre.
To undertake assessment of and therapy to clients.
To liaise with other non-statutory and statutory organisations on matters of clinical care and policy.
To proactively develop relationships with referrers in the area
To represent the Group Therapy Centre at meetings as appropriate e.g. ICB, local mental health services and other relevant groups.
To line-manage Core therapists and all sessional therapists, trainees, and supervisors
Participation in service evaluation and research.
Undertake Annual Appraisals for Core Team staff
Recruit when necessary.
Attendance at Trustees meetings.
Other Responsibilities
To assist the Director necessary in reporting to funders or in meetings.
To prepare and input into Group Therapy Centre policy as required.
To work with the Director to explore new ideas for expansion and development
To support the Office Manager with the necessary data to monitor and report on activity within the Centre as requested by the ICB, Centre Director &/or Board of Trustees and funders.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the responsibilities of the post as requested.
Person Specification
Required
Professional training in a psychological therapy, which included an in-depth personal therapy component. Professional membership of UKCP/ BACP or equivalent. Minimum of 4 years post qualification experience in a relevant setting.
Experience of providing clinical and managerial supervision to qualified and trainee psychotherapists.
Experience of provision of longer-term psychological therapy and of group therapies.
Experience of managing a team.
Experience of undertaking in-depth personal therapy.
Desirable
Knowledge of the charity sector
Experience of working within NHS or private sector mental health organisations
