ABOUT THE ROLE
As our new Communications and Marketing Manager, your creativity, high quality communications and drive will play a fundamental role in helping us achieve the necessary growth. You will deliver a communications and marketing strategy that will:
continue to elevate Petals' reputation as experts in our field
grow awareness of what we do and why it matters, to key influencers including
healthcare professionals, potential donors and, of course, parents who may need our
counselling
encourage support of our charity.
We are looking for someone with broad experience as the role will be varied and will include working on campaigns, producing content, media relations, overseeing our digital communications, internal communications and production of materials. You will understand the importance of knowing who your audience is and why the brand voice matters for a charity like Petals.

You will be well supported by the Head of Fundraising and Communications and will line manage a Digital Communications Coordinator.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Overall Aims
To develop and deliver Petals' communications and marketing strategy, raising awareness of Petals, our services and ways to support the charity.
Produce high quality communications and marketing content, that meets the needs of our audiences and helps us to achieve our goals.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic content creation and storytelling
Create high quality content for use across our channels, which successfully promotes the work Petals does and enhances our position in the baby loss community.
Sensitively tell the stories of our clients, sharing their journey and the positive impact Petals has had on them, using a range of mediums such as blogs and videos.
Write engaging, accurate and relevant copy for a range of stakeholders, including blogs, statements, press releases, leaflets and fundraising campaigns.
Planning and delivery of marketing and communications activity
Contribute to and lead on the delivery of marcomms plans for key campaigns, fundraising events and other charitable activity such as launches of partnerships.
Monitor and evaluate the performance of marketing and communications activity.
Champion the importance of accessibility in comms, as well as the ethical and responsible use of AI.
Digital and social media management
Oversee and contribute to the management of our social media channels, working closely with the Digital Communications Coordinator on creating campaigns, producing content and managing a lively and effective calendar of activity that's in line with our communication pillars.
Oversee the successful delivery of email campaigns, working with the Digital Communications Coordinator to ensure supporter journeys and comms are relevant and appropriate and making best use of the CRM and Mailchimp to maximise performance.
Support the Head of Fundraising and Communications and Digital Communications Coordinator on developing and managing the website, ensuring a high quality and accessible user experience.
Media relations and reputation management
Proactively manage media opportunities, including identifying and pitching stories across print, broadcast and online, organising interviews, writing and sending press releases and statements, and then managing any opportunities appropriately.
Work closely with the Head of Fundraising and Communications on crisis communications and protecting Petals' reputation.
Brand and creative oversight
Manage and oversee Petals' brand, ensuring consistency in messaging, branding and brand development across all channels, internal and external.
Oversee the creation and delivery of printed material for events, service delivery and fundraising, using Canva where appropriate and working with external suppliers where relevant.
Collaborative working, relationship building and leadership
Build strong relationships across Petals, including with our counsellors.
Manage the Digital Communications Coordinator, leading them with clear objectives and holding monthly 1-1s and annual reviews, encouraging their growth and providing effective and supportive line management.
Represent Petals and/or the communications team at external events and at internal events, such as away days, where appropriate.
This job may involve working unsocial hours on some occasions. Time off in lieu will be taken by arrangement with your manager. This job description is not contractual and may need to change, upon discussion with the role holder.

Experience and education
Proven experience in a broad, strategic communications role, delivering successful marcomms plans across multiple channels and audiences (E)
Specific experience in the charity sector (D)
Professional qualification in journalism, PR, marketing or communications or equivalent (D)
Communications, marketing and creativity
Exceptional writing skills, with experience producing content across offline and online media and adapting for different audiences (E)
Strong journalistic skills and news sense, with experience securing meaningful press coverage (E)
