About CELF: National contemporary art gallery for Wales



CELF is the national contemporary art gallery for Wales. Funded by the Welsh Government and its partners, CELF comprises a partnership between Amgueddfa Cymru Museum Wales, National Library of Wales, the Arts Council of Wales, Oriel Myrddin in Carmarthen, Aberystwyth Arts Centre Gallery, Oriel Davies in Newtown, Storiel in Bangor, Plas Glyn y Weddw in Llanbedrog, Ruthin Craft Centre, Mostyn in Llandudno, Newport Museum and Art Gallery and the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea.

Through loans, outreach and commissioning programmes delivered across the CELF partnership, people in Wales are able to explore the national art collection across Wales. Through an extensive digitisation programme of artworks in the national collection, audiences are also able to access the collection and an associated range of creative resources online at www.celfarycyd.wales

Newport Museum and Art Gallery works with local partners to realise CELF, raise the profile of the national collection and of contemporary art in general.



About the role



As the Community Engagement Officer you will develop and deliver a range of events and activities across the Newport partnership to engage members of the public with the national contemporary art collection. In the first instance your focus will be on the delivery of a city-wide CELF activity and a school project involving a loan from the contemporary art collection of Amgueddfa Cymru Museum Wales.



What you will bring to the team





We want a candidate who can communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and ages with enthusiasm, patience and resourcefulness. You will have a relevant degree and experience in planning and delivering community engagement programs in the arts and heritage sector. You will have experience of managing a budget, completing monitoring reports and evaluations as well as risk assessments for activities. You will have an understanding of contemporary art and a passion to engage members of the public with the subject in person and via social media. You will love to talk to people, be self $u motivated with a positive attitude and excellent organisational skills.

This post is offered on a part-time (22.5 hours/week) and fixed term basis until 31 March 2026.
