About the Role



We are looking for an experienced Complex Care Support Worker to provide 1:1 person-centred care and support for a young adult living with a spinal cord injury.
You will work within a comprehensive care plan and help promote independence, dignity and safety at all times.

This role includes personal care, clinical support tasks and social assistance as part of a professional care team.

About the Person You'll Be Supporting



I am a 22-year-old university student living with a C6 incomplete spinal cord injury. During term time, I live in student accommodation in Liverpool, and in the holidays, I stay with my family in Prestbury, Cheshire.

I am independent, social and focused on my studies, I need reliable, trained support workers to help me maintain my independence and quality of life both at university and at home.

I value trust, respect, privacy and a positive attitude from those who support me. I appreciate carers who are confident, calm, and happy to follow my direction while also being attentive and sensitive to my needs

What You'll Be Doing



Assistance with washing, dressing, hair washing. Support with make-up and grooming when requested. Help with zips, buttons, shoes and fine motor tasks. Respect for privacy and independence at all times. Support with catheter management, including emptying, changing leg/night bags and maintaining hygiene. Assistance with bowel care routines, including digital rectal stimulation (DRS) and suppository administration (training provided). Monitoring for signs of infection or changes and reporting promptly. Support with transfers. Ensure catheter tubing and equipment safety during movement. Assistance with wheelchair use, especially on inclines or uneven terrain. Support with vehicle access and securing wheelchair for travel. Daily skin checks during personal care routines. Assistance with pressure relief routines, positioning and equipment checks. Monitoring and documentation of any redness or breakdowns. Support with medication. Respect personal space and privacy when needed. Encourage hydration, nutrition and daily exercise/stretches. Support wellbeing, self-confidence and participation in university/social life.

Overnight Support



B

e available if called via doorbell system (rarely needed). Support with catheter or bowel care if required during the night. Work collaboratively with family members and healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to care.

What We are Looking For:



Proven experience working as a live in carer particularly those with

complex medical needs

, is essential.

Experience with

supporting an individual with spinal injuries.



Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Energetic, positive, and empathetic personality.

Awareness of accessibility needs, including wheelchair-friendly routes, transport and venues.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider care team.

Flexibility to work 12-hour daytime shifts or as and when required.

A calm, resilient and proactive approach to complex situations. Someone who can bring warmth, humour and creativity to the role. NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (desirable but not essential).
