The purpose of the role

Responsible for ensuring the group complies with the regulatory requirements of one of the relevant regulators. The regulators are Ofwat, Ofcom, WICS and Ofgem. First point of contact for the regulator.

What we want you to do

  • Keep up to date with, and make the business aware of, current and future regulatory requirements, trends, best practice and changes.
  • Work with the business to ensure it complies with future regulatory changes and, where appropriate, manage implementation of amendments within any required timeframes.
  • Identify, and work with the business to fix, any areas of non-compliance, including making recommendations and considering all impacts to the business.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture across the business.
  • Support the business to submit responses to regulatory documents such as consultations, requests for information and decisions.
  • Update the business on its regulatory performance and feedback from the regulators.
  • Conduct gap analyses to allow the business to maintain a regulatory risk register which identifies compliance risks and mitigation plans.
  • Build close, constructive working relationships with regulators, ADR providers, external advisers and industry peers.
  • Prepare reports/presentations/updates for senior management and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Ensure our standard terms and conditions/scripts/marketing/PR copy/any other business materials meet regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct detailed customer account reviews for auditing purposes and to ensure fair, fact-based resolutions for customers. Work closely with L&D and the wider business to ensure feedback and additional training is delivered where required as a result of compliance risks.
  • Assist the high-level complaints team (CRT) where required with the following:
  • the resolution of executive and high-level complaints (as a point of escalation);
  • the preparation of Ombudsman case files/implementation of remedies.

  • Timely and effective regulatory advice and collaborative teamwork to enables the achievement of key business requirements.
  • All regulatory requirements are met in line with a changing regulatory landscape.
  • Regulatory risk in terms of investigations, fines and reputational damage is mitigated.
  • All feedback is provided in a constructive manner.
What you need to have already done to be right for this role
  • Previous experience of working in a regulated sector (although not necessarily in a Compliance role).
  • Relatable and positive experience of working in a fast-paced transforming organisation, where everything isn\xe2\x80\x99t perfect, but we\xe2\x80\x99re working hard to get there.

  • A confident communication style, both verbally and in writing.
  • The self-awareness to identify own development needs and the desire to continually improve oneself.
  • The ability to use own initiative.
  • The ability to work successfully as part of a team - to bring people and teams together and to provide support to, and learn from, other team members.
Qualifications and other requirements
  • Degree or equivalent.
  • Previous experience of working in a regulated sector (although not necessarily in a Compliance role).
  • Location: Within commuting distance of Verastar HQ, Sale, Manchester.
  • IT literate, with knowledge of the effective use of Microsoft (Word, excel PowerPoint); essential.
