We are recruiting
Construction Workers
for multiple roles on construction and building sites in London. Our company has clients seeking reliable workers in various trades and positions. Whether you are a general labourer starting your construction career or a seasoned tradesperson (bricklayer/carpenter) or a qualified site supervisor, we have opportunities for you. You'll be working on projects that may include commercial buildings, residential developments, renovations, and infrastructure works. Safety, teamwork, and work ethic are paramount on all sites.
Key Responsibilities (by Role):
General Labourers:
Perform manual and supportive tasks to assist skilled tradespeople and keep the site running smoothly. This includes preparing and cleaning the construction site, loading and unloading materials, mixing mortar or concrete, digging trenches, and setting up equipment. Labourers also help
move materials around the site
(often by hand or using wheelbarrows or pallet trucks) and ensure that trades workers (bricklayers, carpenters, etc.) have the supplies needed (bricks, timber, mortar) readily available. You may also put up simple formwork or assist in basic construction tasks under supervision. Maintaining site tidiness and adhering to safety instructions are crucial parts of the role.
Bricklayers:
Construct and repair structures made of bricks, blocks, and other masonry materials. You will
lay bricks and blocks
in line with project plans and building codes, using mortar to bind them.
Carpenters:
Build, install, and repair wooden frameworks and fixtures on the construction site.
Site Supervisors/Foremen:
Oversee and coordinate daily operations on the construction site. Regularly liaising with project managers, engineers, or contractors to provide progress updates, and solving any on-site problems or delays, are part of your day-to-day duties. Documentation such as daily logs, incident reports, and quality assurance checklists will also fall to you. Essentially, you are the team leader on the ground ensuring the project runs smoothly, on time, and safely.
Key Requirements:
Certification (CSCS Card):
All applicants
must hold a valid CSCS card
(Construction Skills Certification Scheme) appropriate for their role. This is a mandatory requirement to work on most construction sites in the UK, indicating you have passed the relevant Health & Safety test. (E.g., a Green Labourer CSCS Card for general labourers, Blue/Gold trade-specific CSCS Card for skilled workers, and Gold/Black CSCS Card for supervisors/managers.)*
Experience & Training:
Relevant experience in the applied role is required or strongly preferred. For labourers, some prior construction site experience or manual work experience is beneficial. For skilled trades (bricklayers, carpenters), a
completed apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2/3 qualification
in your trade is preferred, or several years of work experience proving your expertise. For
Site Supervisors/Foremen
, prior experience in a leadership role on construction sites is expected; having
SSSTS/SMSTS certification
(Site Supervisor/Management Safety Training Scheme) and a proven track record of managing teams will be a big advantage.
Skills:
All candidates should have a strong understanding of
construction site safety protocols
and knowledge of their trade's best practices.
Teamwork
and communication skills are important, as construction is a team effort requiring coordination with co-workers and site managers. Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic are essential traits we expect. For skilled roles, a good eye for detail and craftsmanship (for quality construction work) is needed. For supervisors, solid
leadership and organisational skills
are critical - you must be able to effectively coordinate people and tasks, and clearly communicate instructions.
Physical Requirements:
These roles are
physically demanding
. You must be fit to perform manual labour, including lifting heavy materials, operating equipment, and standing/moving for most of the workday. A capacity to work in various weather conditions is needed since much construction work is outdoors. Being comfortable with heights or confined spaces might be necessary for certain tasks.
Tools & Equipment:
Familiarity with common construction tools and equipment relevant to your role is required. Labourers should know how to safely use basic tools (shovels, mixers, drills). Bricklayers and carpenters must have proficiency with their trade tools (trowels, levels, masonry saws for bricklayers; saws, hammers, chisels, power tools for carpenters). Having your
own basic tool kit
and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe boots and high-visibility clothing is often expected.
Compliance:
You should be knowledgeable about and adhere to
health and safety regulations
on site. This includes wearing PPE at all times, following safety briefings, and practicing safe lifting and operation of equipment. A commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for yourself and others is mandatory.
