Consultant Family Law Barrister - Direct Access (Hybrid / Remote)

Family First Lawyers (FFL) is a new and fast-growing legal consultancy specialising in Family Law, Children Act matters, domestic abuse and divorce.

We are inviting applications from experienced Direct Access Barristers to join our consultant network as we expand our private client and legal aid services.

About the Role

As a consultant barrister with Family First Lawyers, you will:

Accept instructions for advocacy and advisory work under the Public Access scheme. Represent clients in both private and legal aid family matters, including urgent hearings. Work collaboratively with our in-house paralegal and case preparation team, who manage statements, bundles and client liaison. Receive direct referrals for both private and legal aid cases. Benefit from full diary management support for hearings and client appointments. Maintain full flexibility over your hours, caseload and working arrangements.
This is a self-employed consultancy position, ideal for barristers seeking independence while benefitting from a strong referral network and professional support structure.

Fee Structure

For private client work, fees will be discussed and agreed on a case-by-case basis, with transparent consultant profit share arrangements. For legal aid matters, you will receive the full FAS fee, paid directly for the work undertaken.

Requirements

Qualified Barrister with a valid practising certificate. Authorised for Public Access (Direct Access) work. Strong experience in Family Law, including domestic abuse, divorce, financial remedy or children proceedings. Excellent client care and advocacy skills. A collaborative, professional approach aligned with Family First Lawyers' client-first ethos.

Job Types: Freelance, Zero hours contract

Pay: 50,000.00-120,000.00 per year
