Highfields Outreach Project for Engagement (HOPE)

is an exciting three-year initiative, funded by Community Fund that will transform the lives of 360 young adults aged 16 to 30 from disadvantaged communities in and around Leicester's Greater Highfields area. The project will deliver personalised support to help young people overcome barriers to education, employment, and personal development. The project will benefit young adults through:

Routes back into education and pathways to paid work Business start-up advice, volunteering, and placements Improved confidence, communication, and leadership skills/

is seeking a dynamic and inspiring

Creative Mentor - Audio Visual Technician

to provide practical and technical support to learners, while delivering engaging sessions focused on employability skills in the creative industries. This role combines hands-on technical expertise in audio visual production with a passion for mentoring and developing young people and adults seeking to enter creative career paths.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Deliver workshops and one-to-one mentoring sessions focused on employability skills, portfolio development, and personal branding within the creative industries. Provide technical support and guidance in audio visual production, including video, sound, lighting, and digital media. Maintain and set up AV equipment, ensuring all tools and resources are safe and operational. Support learners in developing practical skills relevant to the creative sector, such as editing, filming, sound design, and live event production. Collaborate with other staff to design and deliver a creative curriculum tailored to individual learner needs and industry standards. Provide constructive feedback and progress reviews to help learners build confidence and achieve their goals. Assist in planning and delivering showcase events, exhibitions, or performances to help learners gain real-world experience. Promote a positive, inclusive, and professional learning environment. Maintain accurate records of participant progress and programme activities. Prepare reports and updates for management and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with all organisational policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Training



NVQ Level 3 Arts, Media - City & Guilds IT packages in Music & Video editing software and Desk Top publishing packages

Experience



Proven experience in audio visual production and/or technical theatre, live events, or digital media. Strong knowledge of industry-standard software and equipment (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, lighting consoles, cameras). Experience of mentoring, coaching, or teaching, ideally within the creative industries. Ability to inspire, motivate, and support learners from diverse backgrounds. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Strong understanding of employability skills and pathways within the creative sector. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualities



Strong knowledge of digital tools and platforms relevant to job search and employment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to empathise whilst being able to make professional judgements. Ability to work within and contribute positively to the ethos of Highfields Centre Knowledge of GDPR and handling confidential and sensitive information. Ability to adjust approach/plans depending on individual needs. Appreciation of how to work holistically to support individuals. Excellent administration skills including use of Microsoft Office and databases for record keeping. Works well in fast paced, pressurised environments A strong team player but also can work independently using own initiative Excellent attention to detail. Organised and good at prioritising Working towards measurable targets and deadlines The ability to be proactive and to use your own initiative Personal confidence and resilience
