Ferring Country Centre is charity which supports people with learning disabilities. In addition to our day service, our Visitor Centre, comprising our Cafe and Gift Shop, is open to the public seven days a week.

As a Customer Assistant you will provide a friendly welcome, professional service and excellent customer care. You will work across both the Rangers Cafe and Gift Shop team to help deliver a memorable customer experience.

Normal hours will be Sunday 09:30am-16:30pm.

Flexibility is required to work occasional evenings, weekends, holiday cover and Bank Holidays as required.

Experience of working in a cafe setting is essential and the ideal candidate will be flexible, enthusiastic and committed.

Successful applicants will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Key responsibilities:

Using electronic point of sale system to process customers' orders in an efficient, timely manner.

Preparation and delivery of Barista coffee.

Assist with preparation, presentation and serving of all meals to a high standard.

Ensure the routine day-to-day cleaning is completed.

Maintain high standards of health, hygiene and safety in line with Ferring Country Centre's policies and procedures, and national standards.

Ensure that all daily checks, including temperature control during production, preparation, service and storage are carried out and recorded.

Maintain five-star food hygiene rating.

Advise customers of products and services.

Receive and process deliveries.

Assist with the smooth running of the Visitor Centre as directed by Line Manager. This will include washing up and clearing tables in the cafe; welcoming visitors and advising them of the Centre's facilities in our Gift Shop.

Required skills and experience:

Experience of working in a cafe environment

Good general level of education, including basic reading and writing skills

Interpersonal, written and verbal communication

Self-motivated and resourceful

Respectful and understanding of diversity

Flexible, committed and enthusiastic
