In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, cybersecurity is paramount. The increasing frequency and severity of disruptions across a range of vectors, from cyber-attacks to supply chains to geopolitical events, highlight that technology solutions are just one part of a comprehensive approach to managing risk. This is especially true when considering the interconnectedness of businesses and their extended enterprise, where vulnerabilities in one area can quickly escalate across the network. Within the Cyber team and its multi-faceted business, we help clients to:
Understand their technology landscape and the risks posed, including the complex interactions with customers, vendors and third-party service providers that are crucial to success in the modern world.
Prioritise and implement controls to manage their cyber risks (such as identity and access management, penetration testing, network security and more!), enabling them to innovate and grow securely.
Navigate disruption, high impact events and change, by building resilience to strategic risks, crises, issues and incidents, while meeting evolving global regulatory requirements.
Not only do we want our clients to survive in the digital world, but also to thrive by giving confidence to customers, investors and business partners alike.
Whatever your area of focus, you can be sure you'll work with innovative tools, cutting-edge technologies, fascinating industries, and experts from across the Deloitte business.
What skills and academic qualifications do I need?
You are proactive and take initiative. A key part of the work that the Cyber team does is helping to solve the problems our clients have, so an inquisitive mindset and being able to take in and assess information quickly is important, as is the ability to think critically and creatively.
You can communicate clearly and effectively.
Communication skills are essential for effectively communicating with clients, stakeholders, and other colleagues. This includes being able to write and present information clearly, as well as the ability to listen effectively and understand complex technical concepts. We work across all levels of our clients' organisation from executive management to the technical back-office, so being able to communicate complicated topics in a clear and simple way is a valuable skill.
You are eager to learn and adapt to change. The ability to adapt to change is essential in an area that is constantly evolving. We need to be able to learn new things quickly and adapt to new technologies and threats to be able to position ourselves with clients and respond quickly to their challenges.
You strive for quality and put 100% into what you do. We want to make an impact that matters for our clients, and they want high quality in the services we provide. As a result, depth-of-thought to truly understand what clients are asking for, and attention-to-detail in delivering high quality outputs are key to what we do.
This programme is for university students who are doing well academically and want to test their skills in the real world.
We do have some minimum requirements for you to meet. And of course, you'll need more than good grades to make the most of your placement. If you're fascinated by business and can't wait to get stuck into complex projects that make a difference, you'll fit right in.
You must be in the penultimate year of your course, or going on to a master's, and you need to be on track to achieve a predicted degree classification of 2:1 or above.
Duration of the programme: 6-weeks.
No prior experience is required, however some understanding of cyber security and business is recommended.
What kind of work will I do?
Whether you get involved in the strategic or technical side of Cyber (or both!) you'll be working on all kinds of challenging projects to mitigate cyber, reputational, and organisational risks. From inspecting third-party compliance to identifying vulnerable routes into client networks to understanding how to protect live events from terrorist attacks, your work will keep clients safe, secure and one step ahead. You will develop skills to establish, run and manage projects, directly advise clients, solve complex problems to deliver quality results.
You will have the opportunity to work with a range of functional teams across a broad range of industries, helping clients to navigate periods of change and complexity, build resilience against a diverse set of strategic, operational and technology risks, and make informed risk decisions to grow their business, manage disruption and preserve their brand.
We believe in providing our Summer Vacation Scheme students with a 'live experience' as soon as they land in the business, which means assigning you to a live client project, engaging with the team and the client. Tasks will vary across each project, but will include (and are not limited to):
Developing presentations to communicate insights
Understanding and solving your client's problems
Project management tasks, such as planning, tracking deadlines, and preparing materials
Organising and analysing data and creating clear reports
Researching issues for our team
Reviewing contracts and documents
In addition, you could get involved in:
Cyber research around cutting-edge topics such as AI, Blockchain, or Quantum Computing.
Internal community activities, such as town halls, socials or wellbeing initiatives.
Outreach programmes such as our Cyber Academy where we look to give back to the community.
Commercial work such as responding to a client's request for support.
Where will I work?
At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you're in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.
All our work spaces are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team. You can find further information on our
parent and carer policies here
.
How will I develop?
Throughout the scheme, you will have constant exposure to our working environment, getting to know what we do and how we do it. You will be given the opportunity to meet members of our vast Cyber team, increasing your network and knowledge. You will be given training on the different elements of our business, as well as on-the-job experience creating project deliverables. And you will get an opportunity to interview for our September 2026 Graduate cohort.
We provide Summer Vacation Students with the following opportunities:
Our dedicated SVS team will support you from your first day, organising fun activities and socials to help you get to know your fellow SVS students.
You will attend our induction alongside other business line students to learn about the firm, our culture and how we work, before diving into your activities.
After your induction you'll work on projects with colleagues at all levels of seniority helping to solve real problems from our clients.
You will be provided with a support network including a buddy, people leader, mentor, programme sponsor and more!
You will be provided with a number of resources such as the SVS Student handbook which can help guide you through your placement.
Upon being offered an SVS role, you will be assigned a buddy in the team who has recently joined the Cyber team through our SVS or Graduate programme. They will be your informal point of contact for any queries and offer insight and guidance ahead of joining.
