to support the Nursery Manager in the effective day-to-day running of the nursery, ensuring high standards of care, education, and compliance with all relevant legislation and safeguarding requirements. The Deputy Manager will lead by example, provide leadership to staff, and ensure a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for children.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Assist the Nursery Manager in overseeing daily operations and staff management.
Childcare & Curriculum
Ensure high standards of learning, development, and care for children.
Oversee planning and implementation of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum.
Monitor children's progress and ensure accurate observations and assessments are maintained.
Support inclusive practice and ensure individual needs are met.
Health & Safety / Safeguarding
Ensure the nursery meets health, safety, hygiene, and safeguarding standards.
Be a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL.
Respond promptly to any concerns regarding child welfare.
Maintain appropriate records and liaise with external agencies when necessary.
Parent Partnership
Build positive and professional relationships with parents and carers.
Handle parent inquiries and complaints in a professional and sensitive manner.
Support parents with guidance on their child's development.
Administration & Compliance
Assist with nursery audits, action plans, and inspections (e.g., Ofsted).
Keep accurate records including registers, accidents, incidents, and medication.
Support with budget monitoring and resource management where needed.
Take full responsibility in the absence of the Nursery Manager.
Support staff recruitment, supervision, appraisal, and development.
Ensure staff follow policies, procedures, and best practices.
Promote a positive team atmosphere, motivating and inspiring staff.
Required Skills & Experience
Qualifications:
Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years (e.g., NVQ, CACHE).
At least 2 years' experience in an Early Years setting.
Experience in a supervisory or team leader role preferred.
Knowledge of EYFS framework and statutory requirements.
