Job Description

We are currently working with a multi-award-winning engineering consultancy seeking to recruit a Design Manager to join their Infrastructure Design Team in Manchester. As the Design Manager, you will take lead on the delivery of the overall Highways England framework as well as the design delivery of future framework schemes across the northwest, northeast, and Yorkshire. You will be responsible for ensuring the overall design is delivered to the right standards and play a key role in the client team.

Responsibilities will include:

• Driving design deliverables within the highways design team.
• Supporting and mentoring junior staff to develop their highway design capability and infrastructure service.
• Checking/approving staff work, including third party design proposals, as identified in the Project Quality Plan on all projects.
• Ensuring the overall design is delivered to the relevant standards and Codes of Practice.
• Playing a strategic role in the client team while developing and maintaining excellent client relationships.
• Undertaking site visits, surveys, and inspections as well as approving reports.
• Liaising with Local Authorities and other contractor\'s staff on major road schemes.

Skills & Experience Required:

• BEng or Meng, preferably with MICE Chartership status.
• Vastly experienced in the design of highways and transportation schemes, with experience leading and managing projects and teams.
• Strong technical skills and proficiency in design software such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads, PDS or similar.
• Strong knowledge of section 38/S278 Highways agreements.
• Sound knowledge of DMRB and MCHW.
• Experience of working with Highways England and / or Local Authorities on major road schemes is essential for this position.
