Unitech Engineering Ltd based in Burntwood - Staffordshire, are looking for a

Design Office Manager.

We are a leading supplier of high-quality stainless steel and aluminium equipment for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and other hygiene conscious industries, specialising in Material Handling and Conveyors.

Role Overview:



Based at Burntwood, Staffordshire, we are seeking an experienced Design Office Manager to lead our team of 10 mechanical designers in the development of stainless-steel conveyor systems, automated lifting equipment, and advanced material-handling solutions for the Food and Pharmaceutical sectors. This role is central to delivering hygienic, reliable, and innovative systems for high-care production environments, including poultry, meat processing, and ready-to-eat assembly lines. Other duties involved in the role are as follows:

Main duties will include:



Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 10 mechanical designers. Oversee the design of conveyor systems and mechanical handling equipment for:
o Poultry & meat processing lines

o Ready-to-eat and sandwich production lines

o Direct food contact conveyors

o Box, can, and tray handling systems

o Vibratory and specialist conveyors

o Automated lifts, hoists, and vertical transfer systems

o Integrated conveyor automation including accumulation, merging, sorting, and routing systems

Ensure all designs meet strict food safety and hygienic standards. Support projects from concept through to manufacturing and installation. Drive innovation in hygienic design, efficiency, and automation. Lead value engineering initiatives across the full product range to enhance performance and reduce cost. Oversee and spearhead value engineering over the full product range Manage design resources, planning, and departmental KPIs. Provide training, guidance, and support to junior designers to develop technical capability and career growth. Assist with any other duties as required by the business in line with your skill set and experience.

Skills & Experience Required:



To be considered for this role you must have a strong design background in conveyor and mechanical handling systems. AutoCAD, 2D, and Solidworks and 3D (or similar considered) experience is a prerequisite Must be a problem solver. No fear of exploring innovative design. Must be able to work equally as well as part of a team or on your own. Be able to agree and meet reasonable time scales for the work required. Pay attention to detail and quality with a continuous improvement mind set and ability to multitask.

Salary is negotiable dependant on qualifications and experience. Full time, permanent contract. 33 days holiday (inclusive of annual, bank/public days) Access to a contributory company pension scheme. An extremely varied, challenging and interesting role.
