Job Description

Job Purpose:



To support the Despatch Supervisor in the effective daily management of the Despatch area, ensuring team members perform their duties safely, efficiently, and to the required standards. The Chargehand will also deputise for the Despatch Supervisor during periods of absence or when assigned to other duties.

Key Responsibilities:



Ensure health and safety is prioritised in all activities. This includes monitoring the completion of daily forklift truck safety checks and ensuring fluid levels are maintained. Perform all despatch-related tasks in a safe, efficient, and customer-focused manner. Provide full supervision of the shift, utilising available resources to maximise operational efficiency. Oversee and assist with the storage, organisation, and loading of goods in accordance with company procedures. Maintain cleanliness and order within both the internal and external despatch areas. Coordinate the activities of the Despatch team, including task allocation, problem-solving, and ensuring materials and equipment are readily available. Accurately complete all relevant documentation, ensuring legibility and compliance with company procedures. Participate in team briefings, training sessions, progress meetings, project work, and any other duties reasonably expected of the role. Support the Supervisor in maintaining workflow and achieving departmental targets.

Skills and Experience



Strong IT proficiency, with the ability to use relevant systems effectively. Proven experience in a team leadership or supervisory role. A current and valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence is desirable, but not essential. If the successful candidate does not have an FLT licence they will be expected to successfully complete the training and obtain the certificate to pass their probationary period.

Additional Information



This is a working supervisory role; the Despatch Chargehand will be expected to carry out hands-on operational duties alongside supervisory responsibilities. In the Supervisor's absence, the Chargehand will assume responsibility for day-to-day operations to ensure continuity of service and performance. Pay: 14.61 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
