What will I be doing?
As a Development Infrastructure Technician, you will report to the Principal Development Infrastructure Officer within the Development Engineering Team. Infrastructure is at the heart of our ambitions to support productivity and innovation. We host the largest infrastructure project in Europe, Hinckley Point C, and we have over 50m of major highway projects in progress, with more planned.
We're a rural county with the tenth largest road network in the country. As the highway's authority, we look after 6,600km of road, 2,000 bridges, 900km of ditches, 120,00 gullies and 52,000 streetlights. This network is growing too, with 9km of new highway every year, 9,500 planning applications every year and 700+ live development sites at any one time.
We're working to improve the lives of people here in Somerset - and you'll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:
Undertaking key administrative duties to affect the implementation of developer led and third-party highway infrastructure delivery projects e. distributor roads, roundabouts, signalised junctions, right turn lanes etc.
Being a key point of contact for developers and their agents, contractors, solicitors and members of the public with respect to the administration of legal agreements.
Maintaining business critical databases and document management systems to meet information governance requirements
Administering the processes to record the collection fees, commuted sums and contributions under the terms of these legal

Have experience of working in construction, engineering/technical/project management or highway authority environment.
Have proven experience of working under minimal supervision, self-managing workloads, priority setting and achieving target deadlines
Are competent liaising with professional customers and members of the public.
Have good analytical, numerical and literacy skills and a competent IT user.
Are self-motivated, enthusiastic and confident.
Can work well within a team environment and strive to deliver high quality services.

The salary for the role is Grade 12, ranging from 28,598 - 32,061 per annum.

The role requires regular attendance at County Hall, Taunton to support collaboration with colleagues, attend key meetings, and participate in essential training sessions. It also involves occasional travel to construction sites across the County to monitor progress, engage with contractors, and ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards. While some home working may be possible, this will be at the discretion of the manager and subject to service needs.
