Job Title: Direct Payment Support Officer




Job Location: Community Engagement Centre, Ford Street, Walsall, WS2 9BW




Salary: 13.16 per hour



Contract type: Permanent



Working hours: 21 hours per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday, flexibility to cover leave)




About the role



We are looking for a Direct Payment Support Officer to join our friendly and dedicated team supporting residents across Walsall.


In this varied role, you will help individuals, carers, and personal assistants manage their Direct Payments effectively. Your work will include reconciling and auditing accounts, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with local authority requirements.


You`ll also support Direct Payment recipients to recruit and manage Personal Assistants, ensuring they understand their responsibilities as employers and that any issues are addressed promptly and sensitively. This includes explaining care costs, answering queries about funding, and liaising closely with social care teams.


You will work collaboratively with social care to ensure Direct Payment funds are used in line with agreed support plans and that all spending is compliant with council guidance.


In addition, you`ll provide general administrative support across the organisation answering phone calls and assisting other services when needed, particularly during periods of staff leave or maternity cover.


Please note: If successful, a DBS check will be required




About you



We`re looking for someone who:


Has experience in finance, payroll, or accounts administration (Sage payroll experience desirable) Can reconcile and audit Direct Payment accounts accurately Has experience supporting clients or working in a social care/community setting Understands employer responsibilities within Direct Payments, including recruiting and supporting Personal Assistants Can explain and resolve queries around care costs, funding, and support planning Can communicate clearly and confidently with individuals, families, and social care professionals Understands payroll processes, employer obligations, and can maintain accurate records Is confident using IT systems (Microsoft Office and online platforms) and has strong numeracy skills Is a reliable team player, willing to support other services and answer phones when needed Is organised, methodical, and proactive with strong problem-solving skills Has a professional, empathetic, and patient approach to working with individuals and families Is flexible and adaptable able to provide cover for colleagues during leave
