This is an exciting opportunity for a Disability Adviser to join the University of West of Scotland to support the diverse needs of students across all our campuses
Reporting to the Disability Service Team Leader you will provide information and advice to prospective and current disabled students studying at University West of Scotland. Along with identifying reasonable adjustments and liaising with academic colleagues, you will also carry out Needs Assessments for individual students and process and submit Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) applications.
Educated to degree level or equivalent you will have relevant experience working in an advisory capacity as well as working with disabled people on a one-to-one basis. In addition, you should be able to evidence experience of building successful internal and external relationships. You will also provide specialist information and advice to prospective and current students with disabilities on the support systems available in Higher Education and to enable the assessment and implementation of students' support requirements. Additionally, the post holder will have a good understanding of disability legislation as it applies to HE ensuring the needs of individual students are met (in line with the Equality Act 2010) and will support the wider university community to meet its obligations and to provide an inclusive student experience.
The successful candidate should have the following:
Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Experience of working in an advisory capacity in further/higher education.
Knowledge of Disability legislation within the context of further/higher education
Understanding of the Disabled Student Allowance application process.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong self-management organisational and time management skills.
