JOB PURPOSE



The Joiner will be responsible for the accurate production of wooden components using various machinery and hand tools. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings, ensuring high levels of accuracy, and maintaining quality standards throughout the production process. The ideal candidate will be flexible, reliable, and willing to support other departments as needed to meet business demands.

To be successful in this role, you will:

Have hands-on experience with joinery shop equipment such as table saws, cross-cut saws, planer/thicknesser, spindle moulder, chain-mortise.

Be proficient in using hand and power tools, including drilling, tapping, grinding, and routering.

Be able to interpret engineering drawings and accurately mark out components.

Work efficiently with jigs and templates to ensure precise assembly.

Maintain high-quality standards with a keen eye for detail.

Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and flexibility to work in other departments when required.

Be willing to work overtime when necessary to meet business demands.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Operation of Joinery Shop Equipment:



Safely operate table saws, cross-cut saws, planer/thicknesser, spindle moulder, chain-mortise, and other woodworking machinery. Ensure proper maintenance and care of all equipment.

Use of Hand and Power Tools:



Perform drilling, tapping, grinding, routering, and other necessary operations with precision. Select appropriate tools for each task and ensure safety protocols are followed.

Interpreting Engineering Drawings:



Read and understand technical drawings to fabricate components accurately. Identify materials and tools needed based on specifications.

Marking Out and Assembly:



Mark out components to a high degree of accuracy. Use jigs and templates for set-up and layout of components.

Quality Control:



Ensure all work meets quality standards and specifications. Conduct inspections and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy.

Teamwork and Flexibility:



Work independently or as part of a team to complete projects efficiently. Support other departments when needed to meet business goals.

Workplace Reliability:



Maintain punctuality and a professional work ethic. Be willing to work overtime when required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION



All criteria detailed below are essential, unless stated as "D" (desirable).

Education and qualifications



Minimum Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ or Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (or equivalent qualification).

Further trade certifications would be advantageous.

Experience, knowledge and understanding



Demonstrated experience in a joinery shop or similar environment.

Strong proficiency in woodworking machinery and hand tools.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.

Knowledge of quality control processes and materials used in joinery work.
