The Driver Training team is acknowledged as being critical to the force and the people of Nottinghamshire in delivering a thorough and professional training and development service we can be proud of. This requires the team to be College of Policing accredited Instructors, Licenced to deliver prescribed courses.
The team consists of 12 uniformed Instructors (Police and Staff), a Deputy and Chief Driving Instructor, all work between the hours of 07:00 and 00:00 on a five-day work pattern, with occasional weekend working envisaged, being an instructor is a demanding and tiring role therefore suitable rest periods are taken over weekends. The team work closely together to deliver training and to support each other to ensure that the best possible service is provided to our learners.
The team deliver a range of driver training events encompassing, Basic, Response, Advanced, Pursuit, Stinger, and D1 van, the events are scheduled in a delivery plan covering a 12 month period, and there are expectations for forward planning for leave. There is a requirement to complete structured administration to support course delivery, this is quality assured to ensure timeliness and consistency.
A newly appointed instructor will be required to successfully complete; an Advanced driving Authority, gain a 96% pass in a Roadcraft and Highway Code theory examination, College of Policing Trainer Essentials Programme Level 4 qualification and complete the College of Policing Police Driving Instructor process before spending time delivering Response courses. An Instructor is provided with Continuing Professional Development time to maintain relevant skills and knowledge. There is a large investment in the training and development of a Driving Instructor therefore whilst this is a permanent post there is an expectation that sucessful applicants will remain full-time in post for the initial 2 to 3 years, to consolidate their new skills with significant time spent delivering courses.
As an Instructor you will be a role model to others, setting, maintaining safe driving standards and practices with the opportunity to work closely with colleagues, other departments and other Forces. Each driving course is different according to the individual learner needs and Learning Outcomes, an Instructor must be confident, enthusiastic, motivated with good communication and decision making skills, supportive, caring and respectful.
