Job Summary



We are seeking an experienced On-Site Electrical and Mechanical Engineer to support the maintenance, servicing, and repair of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and associated systems. Based at the customer site Commercial, Industrial , you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of AGVs through both planned preventive maintenance and reactive repair work.

This role requires strong skills in electrical and mechanical fault-finding, the ability to work under pressure to minimize downtime, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues before they impact operations. You will also support system upgrades, testing, and calibration, while maintaining accurate service records and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

As the first point of contact on-site, you will liaise with operations teams to prioritize repairs, provide technical advice, and ensure AGVs remain fully operational to meet production and logistics demands.

Duties



1. Preventive & Routine Maintenance



Inspect and maintain AGVs running on wire-guided tracks to ensure smooth operation. Perform scheduled servicing on vehicle components eg. (batteries, motors, sensors, control panels etc). Calibrate wire guidance systems and verify correct alignment and tracking. Replace worn parts and consumables eg. (wheels, sensors, connectors, wiring etc). Ensure work areas are clean and tidy.

2. Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting



Respond to customer callouts for breakdowns and system faults. Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and software issues affecting AGVs or guidance tracks. Use diagnostic tools and schematics to identify faults in wire guidance circuits. Implement quick fixes on-site to reduce downtime, and escalate complex issues if needed.

3. Emergency Support & Callouts



Provide

24/7 or scheduled on-call support

for urgent breakdowns. Travel to customer sites to resolve system failures, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Maintain service logs and report root causes of breakdowns after callouts.

4. System Testing & Commissioning Support



Assist in installation and commissioning of new wire-guided AGV systems. Test wire track integrity, sensors, and AGV responses. Validate system safety features (emergency stops, collision avoidance).

5. Documentation & Reporting



Keep detailed maintenance/service records for each AGV and track. Document callouts, including issue, action taken, and recommendations. Provide feedback to engineering/design teams on recurring issues.

6. Customer Training & Support



Train operators and site staff on correct usage and daily checks of AGVs. Advise on best practices to prevent recurring breakdowns. Support clients with technical queries related to wire-guided systems.

7. Health, Safety & Compliance



Follow strict safety procedures when working around Automatic Machinery. Ensure AGVs and track systems comply with relevant safety standards. Conduct risk assessments before starting repair or maintenance work.

Work Schedule



Hours:

8-hour Days,

4 days per week

.

Weekends:

Participation in a

rotating weekend roster

3 hours on site Saturday and Sunday.

Callout:

Availability for

out-of-hours emergency callouts

on a scheduled rotation.

9 Compensation



Salary-based position

(fixed monthly pay to be determined on skill level).

Additional hours worked

(callouts or overtime) are compensated through

time off in lieu (TOIL)

Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays.


10 Qualifications



Relevant technical (Apprenticeship) or a minimum level 2 or higher in

Electrical/Mechanical

or equivalent experience in a related field e.g. Engineering, Falktruck servicing, AGV systems. Strong understanding of

Electrical/Mechanical systems

. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically under pressure. Effective communication skills to interact with clients and team members professionally. Experience with diagnostic tools and software is advantageous. A valid driver's licence is required for travel to client locations. Willingness to work flexible hours as required by servicing and callout demands.
