The University of Chester's Academic Services Department is seeking to appoint a pool of Apprenticeship Assessment Independent Assessors to conduct the Apprenticeship Assessment of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship.
Academic Services acts as the Apprenticeship Assessment Organisation on behalf of the University of Chester managing the Apprenticeship Assessments of those apprentices completing integrated degree programmes.
The role of the Independent Assessor during is to impartially assess whether the Police Apprentice has developed the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard and assess whether an apprentice has achieved occupational competency. Responsibilities include:
Conducting the Occupational Competence Portfolio review and professional discussion, independently assessing the two Apprenticeship Assessment parts that each Police Apprentice must progress through to successfully complete their apprenticeship, namely:
i Part 1. Professional Discussion linked to Occupational Competence Portfolio
ii Part 2. Professional Policing Practice Project and Professional Policing Practice Project Presentation and discussion
providing detailed feedback to Police Apprentices using appropriate feedback mechanisms and in line with feedback deadlines
having final responsibility for assessment and grading decisions and entering assessment outcomes into the appropriate records systems and in line with assessment deadlines
when determining a grade for the professional discussion, considering whether the student has met 13 distinct areas of competency
determining if the Police Apprentice has passed their Apprenticeship Assessment
completing all required paperwork
As the assessment of apprentices is primarily conducted in person there will be need for related travel within the Cheshire area.
Applicants should:
be occupationally knowledgeable in relation to the role of the PC (carrying out the role, or training it, for at least one year in the last 3 years)
have evidence of ongoing policing-related CPD and assessment-related CPD
be professionally-qualified as an assessor in line with policing and higher education sector requirements
work in line with the HE regulator's requirements for assessment and external examination
be from an APAR registered organisation approved to deliver this Apprenticeship Assessment
have had no involvement in the employment, management or training of the Apprentice.
Independent Assessors may be associate or seconded police officer / staff assessors working for an APAR organisation.
Pay is based on the number of apprentices allocated and a fixed per annum fee and a fixed per cohort fee. Allocations will be between approximately 5 and 10 apprentices based on the number eligible for end-point assessment. The per apprentice fee is 292.56, the per annum fee is 170.66, the per cohort fee is 60.95 (all before deductions). Those deemed appointable will be held in a pool of Independent Assessors and will be assigned on both a rota and availability basis, at which point a contract will be issued.
The next scheduled apprenticeship assessment window is October 2025.
