Roofing Estimator

to support the accurate, timely, and profitable pricing of all roofing works across our portfolio.

This is a key role within a growing department led by Bryn Marsh, offering the opportunity to influence strategy, strengthen our supply chain, and contribute to the continued success of Marcon Construction.

Role Overview

The Roofing Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, developing competitive tenders, and supporting the preconstruction process for all commercial roofing projects. You will work closely with our Preconstruction, Commercial, and Project Delivery teams to ensure tenders are well-coordinated, compliant, and aligned with Marcon's standards, values, and processes.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed estimates for all commercial roofing projects, including flat, pitched, liquid, and specialist roofing systems. Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and site conditions. Develop accurate take-offs, material schedules, and labour pricing. Lead subcontractor and supplier engagement, including issuing enquiries, technical clarifications, and quotes comparison. Prepare full tender submissions including scope clarifications, assumptions, programme input, and risk identification. Evaluate value-engineering options to improve cost efficiency while maintaining specification compliance. Work closely with the Commercial Director to finalise tender sums and pricing strategies. Provide technical roofing advice to internal teams and clients. Support the Senior Management Team by contributing to workload planning, pipeline updates, and forecasting. Maintain accurate records of estimates, tender queries, and clarifications in line with Marcon's operating procedures. Participate in handovers for successful bids to ensure smooth transition to the delivery team.

Required Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a

Roofing Estimator

in the commercial or industrial roofing sector. Strong technical knowledge of roofing systems, materials, installation methods, and manufacturers (e.g. Bauder, Sika, Triflex, Sarnafil, IKO, etc.). Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and M&E drawings. Proficiency with estimating software, take-off tools, and Microsoft Office. Excellent numeracy, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and negotiation abilities. Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously and work to tight deadlines. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commercial awareness.

Desirable Experience

Experience pricing roofing works within live hospital or public-sector environments. Knowledge of UK construction contracts, including JCT. Familiarity with drone surveys, thermal imaging, or other modern roofing assessment techniques. CSCS / relevant roofing qualifications.
