About the Pupil

We are seeking a mature, emotionally intelligent HLTA to work one-to-one with a bright and highly capable Year 2 pupil who presents with multiple diagnoses, including:

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) ADHD Overwhelming anxiety
This child is working at a Year 5 level in maths, is verbally articulate, but reluctant to write. He thrives when his autonomy is respected and struggles with direct instructions or demands. He learns best on his own terms, in an environment where he feels emotionally safe and free from pressure.

About the Role

This role begins with a very gradual integration -- currently, the pupil attends school for 39 minutes per day and receives home education the rest of the time. The focus in the first term will be on building trust, comfort, and relational safety.

Your role will be to:

Develop a consistent, trusting relationship over time Engage the pupil through play, physical activity, and shared interests (e.g., dodgeball, Lego) Support social-emotional development before prioritising academic targets Use indirect communication techniques and provide choices instead of demands Help the pupil navigate transitions, self-regulation, and school routines Work collaboratively with the wider team and the family, where the parent can be challenging

About You

You will need to be a

qualified HLTA

with experience in:

Supporting pupils with complex SEND needs (particularly SEMH, PDA, and ADHD) De-escalating high-anxiety or avoidant behaviours Using therapeutic, child-led approaches Remaining calm, consistent, and grounded under pressure Managing sensitive home-school dynamics
This role requires someone

mature, warm, confident

, and emotionally resilient -- someone who, like a previous staff member named Zaynab, can hold clear boundaries while remaining nurturing and unflustered by intense behaviour.
