The Field Engineer plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, responsive service support to our clients across the South of England. This includes carrying out routine servicing, fault diagnosis, emergency repairs, and general maintenance on volumetric concrete mixers and associated equipment.
The role requires a combination of technical know-how, independent working, and strong customer service skills. Field Engineers represent the business on site and are instrumental in ensuring customer satisfaction and operational uptime.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to field service requests and perform fault diagnosis, repairs, and maintenance work on mobile batching plant vehicles.
Carry out scheduled routine servicing and inspections as part of planned maintenance agreements.
Work independently to assess faults, order required parts, and complete repairs to a high standard.
Complete job sheets, record parts used, log time spent, and take photos to document work -- using paper forms and/or digital tools.
Liaise professionally with clients on-site, explaining repairs and escalating complex issues to the Operations & Service Manager.
Maintain a clean and professional mobile workshop (van) and ensure stock, tools, and PPE are in good condition and compliant with company policies.
Participate in an agreed rotation of emergency callout availability (paid at overtime rates).
Support the workshop team as required when not scheduled for field work.
Key accountabilities
Complete repairs, inspections, and servicing jobs accurately and on time
Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and documentation
Provide clear and courteous communication with clients on-site
Ensure van, tools, and job sheets are well maintained and compliant
Report recurring issues or design faults to the Service Manager
Working hours and location
Monday to Friday, typically 8:00am-6:00pm
Some emergency callout work required, paid at enhanced overtime rates
Field-based role with regular travel across the South of England

Required skills and experience
Mechanical or electrical engineering experience, ideally in plant, HGV, or mobile equipment
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
Basic IT skills to complete job sheets and use mobile apps (training provided)
Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
Experience with volumetric mixers, batching systems, or similar heavy vehicles
Familiarity with hydraulic systems, sensors, and mechanical-electrical interfaces
Prior experience in a customer-facing field service role
