We're looking for a
Finance Assistant or Bookkeeper
to take ownership of the day-to-day finances for three care homes in the Wigan area. This is a
hands-on role
that combines bookkeeping, team coordination, and operational support.
You'll work closely with a small, capable finance team (2-3 staff), managing ledgers, overseeing payroll, and collaborating with operations to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
Full financial oversight of assigned care home(s), including ledger management and payroll processing
Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial performance reports
Budget creation, forecasting, and regular KPI reporting
Maintenance of financial controls, including bank reconciliations and aged debtors
Leadership, support, and development of a small finance team (2-3 staff)
Identify and implement process improvements across the finance function
Liaise with external accountants and auditors for year-end accounts and compliance
Ensure financial compliance, including tax reporting and regulatory submissions
What We're Looking For:
Minimum 2 years of experience in a finance, management accounting, or administrative office role
Proven ability to lead, support, or mentor small teams
Strong technical knowledge of payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
Confident using IT systems and financial tools (Excel, accounting software, etc.)
Experience in the care home or healthcare sector is desirable but not essential

Salary and Benefits:
Competitive, based on experience
